4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, June 3* 1987 Pontypool takes Pagans Pagans win over Mag's Nine Oronf? students graduate College announces awards and graduates By Snuffy Hunt Tuesday - May 26/87 Pineridge Pagans at f'ontypool This was one of three games we play away on a Tuesday night. The Pagans were looking for their third win in a row but it was not to be because of the excellent pitching performance of Pontypool's Don Timms. In all he scattered six hits and gave up two runs to defeat the Pagans 7-2. Timms also knocked in the first run of the game on a double double to the wall. It was the third inning inning when Pineridge tied the game op a single by the pitcher A. Sutch, a single by N. Caruana moved him to third, and he scored on a single by Tim Stanley. The tie was short-lived because in the bottom of the third both Dave Moore and Joe Rose each scored on individual efforts. Pontypool added a fourth run in the fourth inning. Dan Elliot drove in MikejDwyer from second. Top of the fifth looked promising with the 1st batter, S. Dixon on 1st base and Roger Macintosh putting the bunt down. Steve slides into 2nd, he is safe,*no, he's out. It's not my place to comment on officiating but come on now! So much for the rally, Pontypool made it official in the bottom of the 5th with two runs by Tim McKee and E. Christopher. Both teams got one run in the sixth to round out the scoring. Well as the saying goes you ain't going to win them all and Pontypool Pontypool definitely deserved this one! My 3 stars this game are (it was a tough pick this week) • 1 Andy Sutch for scoring the 1st run and pitching a decent game 2 Randy Wood for scoring the other run on a double, 3 Ron Underwood for driving in the second run (slim pickins eh!!) The Pagans showed they meant to get back on the winning track after Tuesday's loss by jumping all over Rafuse with four hits and two walks, scoring four runs and running through the batting order before taking the field. In the bottom of the 1st it looked like trouble as Loucks walked walked the 1 st two batters but then found himself and struck-out the next three. Mag got two runs back in the second on an error and a walk. All things were quiet until the Pagan 5th when Wayne Hunt hit a flare to left that was dropped and Rick Deichert (RBI King) drove him in for the 5th run. Hunt is tracking, twisting, turning, reaches over the shoulder, backhand and catches it. Only a lefty lefty could make it look so good and so hard. Lovely catch.
