:| 4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, June 10, 1987 Durham East Liberals open Orono centre - When dust settled Pagans lost 4-2 By Snuffy Hunt June 2/87 Orono Park 8:30 p.m. Curley's vs. Pagans This was the first game in this series of five games .Our record 3-1, their's 4-0. We were not to tarnish that record this night losing '4-2 when the dust had settled. Curley's started fast as usual with two runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the 1st, the pitcher, Bo Humenick, did as he did all lpsl year bring 'em up and put them down. In five games last year the. Pagans were unable to score a run against him. Curley's sailed along for five innings 3 up, 3 down adding two more runs Of their own in the fourth. Just as it looked like the 86 season an error was made to put , Randy Wood on 1st, Andy Sutch walked and pinch hitter Paul . Stewart (1st at bat of the season) comes in to bang a single to centre field to score a biologically uplifting run. We scored one more in the 7th. With Norm Caruana on with his 2nd hit of the ball game. Dwaÿne (Dino) Medd raps a single to score our second. Yes we lost but we scored two runs. To break the jinks. My three stars are: 1. Paul Stewart - who in his 1 st at bat this year drove in our 1st run against a good pitcher. 2. Norm Caruana - who went two for three and scored the 2nd run. 3. Dwayne Medd - who drove in the second run and caught a nice 3 innings innings of the game. June 4 Oshawa - Durham tields A rematch with Curley's The Pagans went into this game with more confidence than ever and it showed the eventual outcome was 5-4 for Curley's in eight innings. A great game by both teams. The pitching match-ups were Tim Stanley for the Pagans and Mike Gorman for Curley's. Curley's drew first blood in the first only to have the Pagans go out in front by two runs in [he third on a walk by Roger Macintosh, two singles back to back hv Dwayne Medd and Mark Jonca.s. A sac flv hv Wayne Hmv* scored the second and a single Randy Randy Wood brought in the third. Curley's third inning saw the game tied on a double by John Van Kemp and a centre field home run by John McAlpine. Curley's took the lead in the fourth only to have the Pagans tie it in the 5th on an opposite opposite field homer by Norm Caruana. Nothing transpired in the sixth or seventh. Extra innings. Bottom of the 8th, Curley's just put two men on 2nd and 3rd, with nobody out, obvious move, intentional intentional walk. Bases loaded, hoping for a miracle, not tonight, the 1st pitch to the 4th batter, zap, the gets .past the catcher, life game is over. As .they say, these are the ones that build character. The Pagans record stands at 3 and 3. Can't wait to meet them again! Long Live Fastball! My three stars are: 1. Norm Caruana for coming off the bench and slamming one over for extra innings. 2. Mark Joncâ» for .scoring, and driving in a run. Plus for an outstanding throw to the plate in the 7th to take us to the 8th inning. 3. Randy Wood for a 2 for 4 performance performance and,a R.B.l. Our next game is on Tuesday June 16th Brooklin at Pineridge. Baby sitting course being offered July 6 Babysitter's are part of the life of young children today.
