We don't want to start (Continued page 4) Orono Guides enjoy annual local camp out Winding along the back country roads ohe is never sure what will be around the next curve, but the last sight you'd expect is a valley full of colourful canopies, flapping tents and smoke curling from scattered campfires, yet that is just what was seen upon rounding the bend to the Allin cabin last week. The First Orono Guide Company set up camp in the back field of guide leader Pam Allin's cabin for a week of camping life, and from all reports everyone was "loving it!" "We've been holding the annual company guide camp for six years ' and it's been really successful," said Pam Allin. The campers left home July 5 and spent the next week working towards badges, swimming, hiking, learning cooking stills over open fires and generally just having a great deal of fun. Pam said she had based the week on a theme, "we're centring all our activities on the past, one day we're Indians the next cavemen, and we eat as they did and dress a little like them." She said Wednesday was 195Qs and 60sjlay. "The girls' patents are coming up for a big camptire tonight and the girls are going to put on a show for them." The swish of the cross-cut saw is no more having been replaced to-day with the chain saw and the noise it does create. A load of logs in the front yard of a residence in south Orono on Saturday with a crew of three with chain saws had some neighbouring residents upset and looking for the conditions of the new noise by-lato. Its not the old days anymore when silence was supreme. TEDDY BEAR PICNIC Everyone loves a picnic, especially when it's a Teddy Bear Picnic. We will be reading Teddy Bear stories, singing Teddy Bear songs and telling Teddy Bear tales. Children should bring a snack with them. Weather permitting, this program will take place outside.
