Wanted - Queen of the Fair contestants WANTED - Contestants for Queen of the Fair. This annual competition to crown Miss Durham Central Fair will be held on' Thursday evening, tember 10th, 1987, commencing 'w /:00 p.m; on the stage inside the arena. , To be eligible for the competition applicants must: 1. have been a resident resident of Canada for two years; 2. have been a resident of the Fair District for six months; 3. be female, single and never have been married, divorced or had a marriage annulled. Contestants must never have had a child; 4. be 17 years old by August 1, 1987 and not have reached her 23rd birthday by August'!, 1987. Should there be more than eight competitors, 'a preliminary contest will be held prior to the fair to determine the eight finalists. Many lovely prizes have been donated for this competition including including money, jewellery box, necklace, make-up, and flowers. In addition to these prizes will be the rewarding experience gained by representing the Durham Central. Fair for the following year. Lots To Entertain You At the Orono Fall Fair The Orono'Fair is packed with events which will attract all ages and types to the Orono Fairgrounds this year. The annual fair takes place September 10 through 13. There will be the usual classes such as cattle, cattle, 4-H, horses, domestic science, junior department, poultry, rabbits, rabbits, plants and flowers, needlecraft vegetables, and sheep just to mention mention a few of the major ones. Other events going on continuously continuously throughout the fair include include Old MacDonald's Farm, the Midway, and the Orono Piglet Preakness where piglet races will be run every 30 mintues throughout the fair. On Thursday night the fun begins with the Miss Durham Central Fair Contest, the Durham County Holstein Holstein Show, the Imerpial Hell | Drivers and entertainment by a barbershop chorus, Friday's slate includes cake and fat calf auctions, sheep auction. Tunka Abdurama (Caribbean entertainment) and the Fiddlers' Contest. The fun starts early Saturday with the parade at 11:30 a.m., the Dairy Princess Competition and Presentation at 1 p,-rn. and the Shari and Jerry Show at 2:30 p.m. Entertainment Entertainment continues in the evening with the Walters Family Band at 6:30 p.m., a rock band competition takes place at 8:30 p.m, and the evening ends with a dance at 9:30 p.m. featuring the Walters Family Band. On Sunday events include the hunter and jumper competition, sheep show, gospel singing a country country and western jamboree and the feature event of the day harness horse racing. The open season will be from August 1 to September 30. In addition, addition, no gasoline motors of any kind will be allowed on lakes open for angling; nor will the use of live baitfish be allowed. These changes are in accord with the desires of many anglers. The increase in season length (from one month to two months) will offer improved angling conditions, conditions, with increased angler returns and a more colourful fish since it is close to the fall spawning time, when the males become darker and the females lighter. Andrea Allin of R.R. 2 Newcastle Village was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital in Bowmanville late last Tuesday afternoon. Durham Regional Police said the accident occurred in the driveway of the Allin's 3rd Concession home when the victim's father, Lome, was driving a jeep hauling a 1,000 gallon water wagon apparently the girl was chasing the slow-moving vehicle when she fell beneat the front wheels of thé wagon. Orono woman drowns in tub An Orono woman found drown- , ed in her bathtub late Wednesday night is believed to have died as result of a diabetic coma. Judy Lee Brooks of 5367 Main St., Orono was found by a friend and was rush to Bowmanville Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead by drowning. Corner Dr. Charles Mcllveen said the medical history of the Orono woman indicates she had been an insulin-dependent diabetic since the age of three. He also stated that no decision had been reached on whether an inquest would be called. An autopsy was to have been performed performed to determine the exact cause of death. The ministry is actively promoting promoting the aurora trout (a unique colour phase of brook trout) as a rare trophy fish. The aurora trout was first discovered in 1923 in the Temagami area of Ontario. It was saved from extinction., due to increased acidification of its home waters, by transferring aurora eggs to the Hill's Lake hatchery, near Chirlton, Ontario in the late 1950s. ■ From these beginnings, the aurora trout expanded into a few sanctuary lakes in northeàstern Ontario Ontario to be used as "wild" brood.
