6-OroHo Weekly Times, Wednesday, September 16, 1987 Gospel sing at the Orono Fair Eastern Ontario Business Initiatives Self-Help offices to provide Eastern Ontarians with information and advice for starting their own small businesses will be established in five commuâmes across the region, Industry, Trade and Technology Minister Hugh . O'Neil announced recently. Working in conjunction with the local municipal government a Self- Help Centre will be established in Port Hope, Mr. O'Neil said. "These Centres join a similar facility facility that's been operating in Ottawa for the past 18 months, and will offer, offer, a library of business literature and advisory materials, computer support and a trained counsellor to help people in the vital pre-start-up, phase of going into business for' themselves." Each centre will cost approximately $60,000 annually to operate. Sunday at noon a spirited Gospel Sing was sponsored at the Orono Fair by the Kirby and Orono United Church. Musical programs were provided by the Mellow Tones (Gladys Brown, James and Doreen Lowery, Carlos Tamblyn, Carman White, David Chatterton, Fred Milnes, Bluegrass Gospel, Don and Diane Barraball, Paul Greenfield and Leo Bryant; the Country Four, Don Staples, Merle Brown, Jack Allin, and Glenn Allin; Judy Taylor; Marion, Kathy and Fred Milnes and selections by the Community Choir. Plans are Underway to make this a'most enjoyablcand successful year at the Newcastle Figure Skating Club. Ted Brown is the new president of the club, assisted by Carla Foote past president; Meredy Maynard, secretary; Beth Creighton, test chairperson; Ellie Wood, social; Betty .Stapleton, ice captain; Barb Boriitski, music ' chairperson. Directors for the coming coming year include Liz Stone, Jim Conboy, and Janet Langford. June Burke will be returning as our music lady. But help is still needed. Be prepared to volunteer. This Season, the Newcastle F.S.C. has increased the hours of ice time, and is therefore able to offer offer a more varied programme. CANSKATE is a learn to skate programme, programme, where the participants will receive group lessons and earn badges. It is the perfect programme fdr all young skaters, whether they are aspiring hockey players, figure skaters or just needing a good foundation foundation in skating skills. Two hours of ièetime gives participants the opportunity opportunity for lessons as well as time to practise what they have learned. We are extremely fortunate to have Shelley Brown, Lynn Tennant and Lisa Maddock as instructors. All three ladies bring with them experience experience and expertise as well as a love for skating and children. A relatively new programme. CANFIGURESKATE, is offered for those skaters who have completed completed the CANSKATE programme and would like to continue with group lessons and have the opportunity opportunity to continue earning skating achievement, badges. Each skater will receive four hours of ice time per week when they will receive expert expert instruction from Liane Bales. The third option being offered by the Newcastle Figure Skating Club is. the Canadian Figtire 'Skating Association Test system. This pro- • gramme is for the skater who would like the opportunity to take private lessons, try C.F.S.A. approved skating tests and represent the Newcastle club at various skating competitions. For skaters interested in this programme, the club has sanctioned the following professionals: professionals: Shelley Brown, Lynn Tennant, Tennant, Janis Coyle, Liane Maddock, Lisa Bales and Pam Sully. Important changes to the Ontario Farm Tax Rebate program will help farmers more than ever. The rebate for a farmer's municipal taxes increases from 60 to 100 per cent The municipal tax rebate applies to all farmlands and outbuildings. ' Rebates will no longer apply to the farm residence and the surrounding one acre of land. In addition, farmers will not be required, as they have in the past, to prepay their municipal taxes before applying for the rebate.
