The visiting team scored the first 2 goals in the 2nd period to ■ take a 2 to 0 lead. Both teams' i ited hard in the first period and Vgdod goaltending prevented any scoring. Then at 6:51 of the 2nd period our Orono Defense got caught 'rushing' the puck at centre ice resulting in a 3 on 1 break. Clayton Rendell had no chance as Bowmanville banged in the rebound. rebound. Bowmanville's second goal was scored from a shot taken deep . in Orono's end. The shot seemed to surprise Chad Maartense as it went high over his shoulder. Orono finally finally got on the board at the 8:56 mark of the 3rd period as right winger Jeff Hughes broke in and slid the puck under a falling goalie. Assisting was centre Bryan Haines. Orono was really pressing at this point to tie the game, but, with just over 4 minutes remaining, Bowmanville got the insurance marker. Three Toro's players pounced on a loose puck in Chad Maartense's goal crease. Chad was helpless to stop the rebound as one of his own players had knocked him off balance during the play. Score ended 3 to 1 Bowmanville. On November 29th Orono travelled to Cobourg and came away with a 3 to 2 victory! It was a complete team effort that was rewarded with a win and 2 points. Orono had excellent goaltending from Chad Maartense and Clayton Rendell and they responded with an early 2 to 0 lead. Scoring Orono's first goal was Daryl Reid on a Henry Kaldeway rebound in ■ the goalmouth. Time of the goal was 2:01 of the first period. Orono scored their 2nd goal shorthanded as Jeff Hughes battled for the puck and banged it in unassisted with :32 seconds remaining in the first frame. The home team came back in the second period to score their only 2 goals of the game to tie it up. Not to be denied, Jeff Hughes scored his 2nd of the game and the eventual winning goal with just 1:12 left in the second period.' Assisting was defenceman Aaron Staples. Both teams played à scoreless third period as the game ended Orono 3 - Cobourg 2. A real crowd pleaser! Hats off to the efforts of forwards Jamie Shetler, Henry Kaldeway, Jeff Goodmurphy, Jason Lawrence, David Crozier and Owen Taylor. Superb defensive efforts were also supplied by Mike Landers, Paul Woods and Scott Ransberry. Absent were Mgrc David and Bryan Haines. Both were out with a bout of the flu. One exhibition game, two tournament games and a league game. All this without leading scorer Sommer West who is recovering from a tonsillectomy (Get better soon Sommer). On Friday the boys played a Whitby Select team. They stayed close until the seven minute mark of the second period, then Whitby soared to a 3 - 0 lead then scored four more in the third. Thanks to the Tri-County Novices for lending us the two Dannys, MacDonald and Buttigieg. On Saturday we travelled to, Man vers for our first tournament. We defeated Peterborough's 1 St. Pauls team 5 - 4 in an exciting- game. Goal scorers for Orono were Jonathan ' Burnham netted two, Scott MacDonald oije, Brett Maartense one and Ryan Winning scored the winner. Assists went to Simon Weagant, Jonathan Burnham, Burnham, Tomas Wakefield and Brett Maartense. In the second game they were eliminated 5 - 0 by Millbrook. Jeff Parry was a key factor in- keeping the score respectable. On Friday, the teachers will be involved in workshops about history, geography, music, special education, the writing process, computers, health, first aid, and other related subjects. The class of 7C went to the outdoor outdoor education center on Wednesday. Wednesday. While there they participated in such activities as the Wilipot Creêl? habitat study, a contour map study and a survival game. Also on Tuesday class 7 C.D. went to Darlington Darlington Nuclear Generating Station to go on a tour. The results of the Student Coun cil election had Jim Partner as president, Steve Harman as treasurer and Dan , Walters, as secretary. The girls' and boys' volleyball teams have done remarkably well during their games. The boys, cc ached by Mr. Nobes, Vice Principal, Principal, have won almost all their games. Also, the girls have won most of their games under the coaching of Mr. Prole. Good going, teams! Last week the Pines had Theatre on the Movp do the play, "The Farmer's Revolution". Though it was a comedy, it also was serious at times. The Pines would like to thank Theatre on the Move for put- Tri-County Novice still undefeated Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, December 2, 1987-5 Meet the Juicers "Miss" Amanda Haines Goalfender The past weekend saw the Novice Juicers take to the tie and Winning both games. Saturday the Orono team played Sunderland on home ice and came up with a 5 - 2 win. Danny MacDonald started the scoring scoring off in the first period being assisted by Grant Esler and Wade Peacock. Second goal came unassisted by defenceman Scott Sawyer. The second period Scott Sawyer assisted Danny MacDonald in the 3rd goal of the game. The first goal on Amanda was a screened shot in the second period, but it wasn't long before Wade Peacock assisted by Brian Hogenhout and Jefif Gates put another point on the scoreboard for Orono. Sunderland's second goal trickled past Amanda to make the score 4-2. Greg Bull decided it was time for him to put his mark in the game and tie got assistance from Danny MacDonald and Chris Mumly, Sunday saw the Juicers travel to Ops for their first away game. Both players and fans were certainly up for this game. Thanks to Verne Cowen and Elaine Haines for leading the supporters in their cheers in this exciting hockey game. The boys and young lady of this couldn't be faulted in this game, especially the "squirt" line which consists of Danny MacDonald, Grant Esler and Greg Bull, these fellows maybe a little smaller than most, but they are mighty and produce produce a good share of the goals. Amanda turned an excellent game in net with allowing Ops only one goal. First period showed Orono scoring twice both by Greg Bull, once unassisted and the other assisted by Danny MacDonald and Grant Esler. Second period Brian Hogenhout picked the top right corner to make his mark assisted by Jeff Gates and Steve Wilson. Ops only goal was scored at this time during a mad scramble in front of the Orono's net. In the third period Grant Esler tucked in a nice goal assisted by Danny ting this on for us. By: Scott Montague THE PINES REPORT On Tuesday, November 17th, Mrs. Baxter's class went to the Darlington Generating Station. When we got there a tour guide told us to look around the information centre at games about nuclear power. Then the tour guide took us to a movie theatre, and showed us a generator worked by hand. She let .us fry it. She also showed us a fuel bundle and a fuel pellet. We watched a movie about energy and two little kids and a professor professor who made a time machine and the two kids went for trips to different places. We then went on a tour of the site in a little bus with the tour guide. We saw lots of wire that will carry electricity and a big vacuum that I would like to use in my home. Then we saw one of the biggest cranes in thé world. When we got back to the information information centre we played more games and got stickers about pollution pollution and little books about nuclear energy. We said thank you to the tour guide and to Mrs. Miller,' our driver.
