t Orono's 'The Price Is Right' Game Show this Sat., at1:30 p.m, Its,a fiin-hour in the Orono Town Hall this coming Saturday afternoon, afternoon, December 12th when the Orrinû Downtqwn Business Association hold their first "The Price Is Right" game show. The game show hits the air at 1:30 p.m. and admission is free. From 18 to 21 contestants will be chosen from the audience to take part in the show with each contestant contestant taking a prize and the winner frtim each round then competing for the big prize of $50.00 in 'D.B.l.A. Bucks' and a giant candy cane. It may not be Bob Barker at the mike but you can be assured it will be a local celebrity hosting the Show. Celebrates fourth anniversary Defers decision on Orono rezoning applications The General Purpose committee 4 on Monday delayed a decision for a period of four weeks of a rezoning application submitted to the Town * jointly by Hartwig, Henderson and Spracklin affecting lands, Main Street North in Orono, Lot 28, Concession 5. The application seeks permission for the parking of a commercial vehicle on each of the respective properties. The application has been reviewed reviewed by the Town's planning department department who have recommended that the application be denied. On a motion submitted by Counc. Cowman and seconded by Counc. McKnight to support the denial was defeated resulting in the tabling of the application for a period of four weeks. At the public hearing on Monday Mrs. Hartwig had asked that the rezoning application be held over for a two week period. Leonard Guy in speaking at the public hearing in opposition to the rezoning outlined frustration as to the enforcement of the existing bylaw bylaw which does not permit commercial commercial truck parking in a residential zone. He said it takes a great deal of personal courage and initiative to obtain the protection of a by-law in this community. He said in face of ' the appalling number of infractions that do exist one might question why we bother to have an official plan or a comprehensive zoning bylaw. bylaw. Christmas Home Decoration winners have been announced and it is understood that a visit to the Orono Estates is well worth the trip,- especially on Peter's'Pike. EVENTS TO REMEMBER The Jazzy Christmas concert at Clarke High School sponsored sponsored by the school's Parent's Committee and featuring the Durham ' Teacher's Jazz Band. Monday evening, December 14th, 8 to 10 p.m. Santa comes to Wendy B's this Friday, December 11th, 7-9,. Mrs. Arlene Bonsma, a resident on Regional Road 17 just north of the 'Village of Newcastle,' made another bid to have municipal water piped further north on Regional Road 17. ' ' Bonsma presented council of the Town With a petition signed' by affected affected residents along the road who all have polluted wells and are now using bottled water for drinking purposes. She stated that the group had again urged the Ministry of the Environment Environment and the Region of Durham to reconsider the application application of a couple of years ago. At , that time residents had stated that they were willing to pay the full cost of the project. It, has been estimated that it would cost $168,000 to extend extend the water mains to service the residents. ■ Council gave their endorsement for the project and the planning department is to return with à report on the request. It was pointed out that extension of the service would require an official official plan amendment. It was further further pointed out that the Region had not taken 'action as it was felt the cost for the few properties was just too much.
