This was ♦ » *-■«' '"■* «- *'<■ on» of the hardest-fought games that Orono has been involved in this year. Both teams were very aggressive aggressive in forcing the play and • strong on defense with end-to-end action for the first period. Lakefield finally broke open the scoring with just 12 seconds left in the first period. Orono came back and began to attack as well, but the play stayed on an even level until Orono finally got on the board with just 51 seconds left in the second period. Jason Mercer made a good p^s to Jason Hansen who relayed it to Brandon Ovenden in a crowd in front of the goal. Orono seemed to get the same lift from that late goal and got their second second goal just 8 seconds into the third period. His quick shot was blocked by the goalie but the rebound came to Mike Schoep at the crease and he wasted no time in putting it into the open side of the net. The play then turned into a fast rushing, end-to-end battle. Neither team was able to get the upper upper hand on play as Orono's passing passing seemed to be just off the mark on offense, but terrific goaltending by Scott Hall and Chad Puk kept Lakefield from scoring. The defense of Neil Haines, John But- tigieg and Sean McKenzie held up Lakefield's advances while forwards forwards Adam Wallace, Greg Hooper, Dan Walters, Scott Hentig and Stephen Shetler backchecked well and forced the play to Lakefield when possible. Orono tied the game with a Jay-Jay play at 3:26 of the third period when Jason Mercer's pass allowed Jason Hansen to get a good clear shot at the Lakefield's goalie. This tie lasted less than a ' minute as Lakefield came back,to score again.
