^ri-County Tykes v ~" (Continued from page 4) Well in the second game the scoring scoring slump came to a big end against the host Newcastle game. The score 10-0 for Orono was no fault to the Newcastle lads. It was just Orono's turn to fill the net. Nine of the goals were provided by Danny MacDonald. MacDonald. I've tried for a couple of days to find the words to describe this 7 year olds performance and can't. Let's just say everyone who saw the game was very impressed. Andrew Reid scored the othér goal, his first along with two assists. Mike Hutton Jr., Amy McAllister, Kyle Beacock, Steve Gates and Adam VanDam each got 1 assist showing the whole team was making the passes that are needed to get the job done. Shut out goaltending was' provided by Steven Foster who also impressed the bystanders in a game that was right full of stars. Orono then met Ennismore for the'B' Division championship coming coming out on top 3 - 2. The score was 1 to 1 after the fast, exciting first period. Danny MacDonald scored early with an assist to Andrew Reid. This put pressure on Ennismore who answered with just 7 seconds remaining. That set up a closer checking second frame with Orono getting the only goal from Danny. Assisted by David Harman. Orono then got the upper'hand early in the. 3rd on a goal by Arhy McAllister on a rebound of Adam VanDam's shot. This put Ennismore behind the 8 ball. To their credit they never quit getting a goal with 4:33 left in the game and making two dose plays before the buzzer that gave Orono the win. 1 Steven Foster played splendid in the net for the second second game in a row. It was an exciting exciting end to a fine day of hockey. Thank you Newcastle for the well organized tournament. As coach I'd like to thank the players for their splendid effort in going 3 games in 1 day with just 10 players. One goalie, 3 defense and 6 forwards. This meant aiot of ice time for all. Through it all you only allowed 3 goals against. That means everybody was working hard. I hope you are as proud of yourselves as Tam of you all THANKS! Orono OMHA PeeWees scuttle Millbrook squad Monday, December 21st scored his second goal of the night Miflbrook 11 at Orono Score Orono 8 - Millbrook 0 After a slow start by Orono and an early penalty, Jimmy Partner passed the puck out of the Orono end to Dustin Reid who connected with Scott McAllister for the first score of the game with 6:05 left in the first period. With less than 2 minutes remaining remaining in the first period, Paul Flintoff beat three players into the Millbrook end and passed to a fast flying Trevor Lomax who picked the top right hand corner of the Millbrook net. Score Orono 2 -' Millbrook 0. The second period saw some end to end hockey with the only score being "hustling" Chris Yeo sinking the puck in the Millbrook net: , assisted by Cameron Esler and Jimmy Jimmy Partner. In the third period the boys got it all together, despite a total of twelve minutes in penalities (keep the sticks down guys) and with 8:32 remaining, Paul Flintoff made a pish which ended in an unassisted goal. 'With 8:05 remaining Chris Yeo assisted by Trevor Lomax and Cameron Esler. Just ten seconds later after a quick line change, Daryl Reid, who had been called up from the "minors" to help the team out, made a pass to his brother Dustin who slipped it across to Scott McAllister who lifted the puck over a sprawling Millbrook goalie for the 6th goal of the night. With less than two minutes remaining remaining Scott returned the favour taking a nice pass from Jimmy Partner, Partner, and setting Dustin Reid up for the seventh Orono goal of the game. Seconds later Dustin Reid set up his younger brother Daryl who had been bumping and grinding with the "big boys" all night, for the eighth and final goal of the night. Jerrett Ans played a solid game in net to get the shut out, assisted by Brent Gates . playing back on defense from his usual position on right wing, and Ryan Tonilinson Who's tough checking denied the Millbrook forwards many good opportunities. opportunities. Babes In Bookland by Dorothy Robinson ' . A Small Event In Eugene Kennedy's book "A Time for Being Human," he has this to say about "small events": "These are frequently the ones that make us the happiest, the occasions occasions that are not big deals and that cost little and yet remain imperishable imperishable treasures." Look into your past. Are -those the occasions that you treasure - events that at the time ,seem inconsequential, inconsequential, but which in retrospect warm your heart again and again? When I reflect on such "small events", a collage of special moments flood my mind. Many of the scenes that march through my memory involve children. So many of these warm, close moments with children occur while sharing books, and such experiences experiences help to build a warm, positive relationship. Isn't that the most important aspect of life - to have good relationships with others? If books can open those lines of communication, then books site ' 1 be valued highly. Dorothy Butler in'"Babies Need Books" says this, "The adult who becomes convinced that he should share books with his children has presented himself with a passport to fun, quite apart from the opportunity opportunity to stay in touch with his children through the years when their minds are daily expanding." Jim Trelease echoes Butler's sentiments sentiments in "The Read-Aloud Hand- bpok": I can promise that once you begin the daily experience of reading aloud to children, it will become one of the best parts of your day and the children's day, minutes and 'hours that will be treasured for years to come." Michele Landsberg hopes that through her "Guide to Children's Books", " many more adults will be persuaded to discover not only how literature can enhancea child's life, but what surprising delights await the adult who can unbend enough to read along with the child." Why not resolve that one of the "small events" of your day will be '■sharing a book with a child! Orono Weekly l imes, School board and council (Continued fr>?m page 1) education". She spoke of how the town planned their communities, their facilities and services. Willsher had previously stated that sub-division planning was the responsibility of the municipality and not that of the Board of Education. Education. Counc.
