I 8-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 27, 1988 Newton ville Alive by: Peggy Mullan "Here's Pie in your eye...love Billy the Kid!"(?) Such was an autograph in my yearbook of 20 years ago, as 1 once more found myself enjoying flipping flipping through my high school "Magnet", comparing photos, clubs, and tidbits with our son's yearbook, just last year from Clarke High School. Chuckling, he and 1 were caught up for a spell in the whole idea that there really wasn't that much difference in high school life and times, then and now. Yes, except for the hair and dress, and the black and white pictures, pictures, '67 and '87 were almost brought together. It does us good to look back. To remember the sometimes crazy times, but also the troubled, confusing confusing times. I hope none of us will ever cease to remember just what it was like when we were 15 or 16 years old and all what'was on our minds. This verse is from Clarke's yearbook.. yearbook.. an old man, weary of life came upon a fountain, to we again, to be young drink deep and long read the sign. The man needed youth, he thought. To be young again would solve all his problems. ' But if our problems are made by what we are then can we not solve them by something as superficial as cosmetic surgery? In the end the man left the fountain as old as ever, but younger than most. -Anonymous. Teenagers have much to deal with not to be underestimated. Many have different ways of handling family problems, sexual question or peer pressure, or not handling them. This Saturday, January 30th, there is an all day Youth Rally...worth consideration. Reilly was Director of a Youth Centre in the Oshawa area and has now joined the staff of the John Howard Society as a Case Worker and Counsellor. He will be leading the session on sexuality with care and a sensitive attitude to the needs and concerns of youth. Rev. Warne, with his experience in the army had led him into making making people aware of the harmful effects effects of cults. He will share his findings findings about the dangers to the unsuspected unsuspected individual. EXISTENCE Am 1 alone " in a crowd of thousands? Is there someone near to me then? Am I deaf when spoken to? Why can't 1 speak when words are wanted? Have I a soul a heart of kindness? Or am I dark unknown and pitiful? I must be human... I look as them. Then man to man 1 plead with you- Treat me as your neighbour too. For worth no more are you than 1. See not my ragged clothes, No dirt upon my face. But look into my lonely heart And warm me into yours. Notice the similarity between this verse and the previous one, this, Written 20 years ago... This rally is for all youth all around the area. I think it will be a very good day, with positive healthy results. Thank you Rev. Ransom for covering this with me. "Hello from Florida!" Silvia Ruegger our Olympian is keeping in touch with us from her training grounds down south, where she will be all this month. Sharing her words from hdt postcard.. "I am getting used to doing workouts on grass..it is much more tiring than Working out on the roads. Although grass running is less jarring and stressful on the legs, it takes much more out of your legs without giving much back. Since the 6 km. .race in Victoria is February 6th is on grass I can see how beneficial these weeks of training training are going to be.." Thank you Silvia. We look forward forward to hearing from you very soon! Good Luck! "The plot thickens.." On Saturday Saturday evening at the site of the "Old Lodge" I (Rebel) and my classmates Foxy, the Narc, Whiz Kid, Patti, Big Bill, Stormy and the King of Spades gathered to solve the mystery. Scene by scene details of blackmail and scandal unfolded, until finally after dinner we learned "who dunnit!" The Toronto Sun's Max Haines - narrates a short cassette tape as the introduction to this latest game out on the market. It is different. Several of my fellow "suspects" pointed their fingers of guilt my way when they spotted ^ears in my eyes:.but they were from laughter. It was alot of fun and I recommend "An .Evening of Murder" to anyone wishing an unique 3 hours or so of good clean fun and real enjoyment enjoyment with good friends...
