These two ladies were part of the pleasure and success of the Annual .Craft Show and Sale held Sunday, April 17th, at the Pickering Recreation Recreation Centre. Their displays were absolutely lovely. Teasures were plenty. Mrs, Farrow and Mrs. Barton have been working long and hard for the past several weeks, putting their creative talents into high gear, in preparation preparation for this event. Evelyn, an artist with the needle, displayed beautifully crafted cushions, clocks, lacy, sweet- smelling pot pourris and more. Susan, a wizard in the kiln, presented her exquisite ceramic wares..everything from ducks to thimbles, planters to placques. Evelyn and Susan beamed. It was no wonder. Congratulations on a wonderful show! "A rose is a rose is a rose..." Gertrude Stein. Always beautiful, always unique, roses are a true joy. This year, the plunge is mine and 1 have decided to try my luck at planting and growing these flowers of "royalty, love and romance.," Roses fall into six main categories..hybrid teas, floribun- das, grandifloras, miniatures, shrubs and climbing roses. Consult your nursery staff first. It is worth looking into. Make sure you get the proper information and assistance when planting and caring for roses. Over the next three weeks or so (depending on the weather), will most likely be a suitable time for planting..particularly when the buds are just beginning to come out. Here are a few spring tips: In April, gradually remove protective soil around your roses; prune the blackened portions of stems, just above an outward facing bud, then fertilize. Again, check it out - plant the right way. Rewards will be plenty! plenty! Wish me luck!
