Crime Stoppers viewing series of Ajax fires Crime Stoppers and the Durham Regional Police are asking for the Public's help in solving a series of fires which have been set in the Ajax area over the past 8 months. During this time, 18 fires have been set. Mostly the fires have been in derelict vehicles, Goodwill boxes, garbage cans, storage vans and at the rear of buildings. . Unfortunately, the most serious of these fires was set at Midway Carpet, 39 Harwood Avenue South between 10 p.m. and midnight on September 4th last year. A passing motorist spotted the fire which had been started on the rear loading dock and attempted to put it out but was â unable to do so. Roberts Collegiate. « In the Accounting competition, the Junior award was won by Jeff Finch of O'Neill Collegiate; and the Senior award was won by Dave Ullrich of O'Neill Collegiate who tied with Robert Winslow of Ajax High School. In addition, a team award was presented to Pickering High School for being the school with the highest overall achievement in the Keyboarding Keyboarding competition (donated by Cook's Office Supplies), and the O'Neill Collegiate in the Accounting Accounting competition (donated by Central Central Ontario Chartered Accountants Association). The Shorthand team trophy was won by G.L. Roberts Collegiate and was donated by the Holiday Inn - Oshawa. were destroyed. The adjoining buildings were saved but suffered smoke damage. Damage to Midway Carpet was in excess of $700,000. A re-enactment of the fire will be shown on CITY TV, Channel 57, Cable 7 on Thursday, May 12th during the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news.
