mated "Limited Edition " to Clarke Library Peter Boots a former Orono resident, resident, now of the Pontypool area last week, donated a "Limited Edition" Edition" of what he calls Harmonious Convergence, a mass portrait of many individuals who have in some way touched his life. Peter takes great pride, and rightly rightly so, in outlining the features and characters in the mass portrait that now hangs in the hall of "the Clarke Public Library. The portrait took three years to complete and depicts characters of the Wizard of Oz, personal friends, Jesus and even to Hitler. He states that these people have had a lot of messages foy him. There are 115 people included in the portrait. Peter said he has always been a member of the Clarke Library and was pleased to have one of his "Limited Editions" hang in the library. The local Kinsmen present a Planning staff opposes Laidlaw proposal in Newcastle According td reports at the Town of Newcastle council meeting on Monday the Planning Staff of the Region of Durham is suggesting that the planning committee deny- an Official Plan amendment sought by Laidlaw. The application submitted by Laidlaw calls for the extention of tinguisher at $27.50. The Kinsmen have a limited number available at. the present time and offer the kit at the $35.00 figure. Waives $74,000 building permit for Memorial Hospital The Town of Newcastle council council on Monday gave further support to the Memorial Hospital expansion plans by voting to waiver the building permit fee for the new addition addition and renovations. Hubbard and Harare presented a motion, which was fully supported, that the building fee amounting to some $74,000 be waivered and that these funds be used used for capital purchases to further health care at the hospital. Counc. Hubbard pointed out that the Town had already assisted with road closing and assisting with sewage updating. She said people do put up with lacks in some services services but expect the best in health care. She said the $74,000 was ho more than $2.00 per resident in the Town. On question of Counc. Cowman the treasurer stated that the proposal proposal would not present a hardship for the Town of Newcastle. Orono Downtown plan street art show, sale At a recent meeting of the Oronq , Downtown Business- Association consideration was given to a downtown project proposal in the form of a Main Street art show, demonstration and sale. A tentative date for the event has been set for Saturday, May 28th with the show opening at ten a.m. and continuing through to at least three in the afternoon. Some noted area artists have already indicated their willingness to take part in the event along with a wood carver. It is also the intent of the D.B.l.A. to have children participate. participate. in a drawing contest which last year proved rather eventfull with good participation. A further meeting is being held to consider the interest of artists in such an event and to further plan program for the Main Street events. Calls for more input on garbage site selection Councillor Harare at Monday's council meeting sought and obtained obtained support from council to seek more representation on a committee involved in the siting of a possible garbage dump in the Town of Newcstle which could serve Metro Toronto. She said she had serious concerns as the Town did not have representation representation on the MultitStakeholders Committee of SWEAP, a group which was lopking for a long-term waste site, of which three potential sites existed in the Town of Newcastle.
