Welcome wee Ryan was conducted at the Newcastle Clayton Drury McCurdy. Con- 'Multi-Care Centre (formerly Southaven) in Newcastle by Rev. Bryan Ransom, with Ron Phillips, Live in concert, Brad Halls and Paul Caldwell thrill kids from two to ninety-two in Newtonville. "Momma don't allow no kissin' 'round here!" Give it to loud..Give it to me with gumption and pizzazz..But give it to me LIVE! Presented by the Parents Committee Committee of Newtonville Public School, Brad Halls and Paul Caldwell entertained a large crowd from Newtonville and area, Thursday, Thursday, April 28th, in their professional, professional, kid-loving way. Perhaps as a result of singing songs for their own small children, Halls and Caldwell have a particular particular fondness for music and young people and as a result, they have recorded and released their first album, "New Kids on the Block." They have attempted to fill their songs with a great deal of humour and rhythm. This shone through wonderfully during the concert evening as we all sang along, clapped, snapped, laughed and kept the beat to a ter-, rific, lively medley of "Can't'Wait 'til I grow up," "Old MacDonald had the Flu," (with a sneeze, cough _ here and a sniffle, choke there!) to "Born in the Hospital" - which had to be the favourite, adapted and inspired inspired by Bruce Springstein's Born in the U.S.A.). Brad Halls and Paul Caldwell now find themselves increasingly in demand as performers for children at schools, concerts and festivals. They have appeared 1, throughout Ontario, and on the CFTO - TV telethon for Sick Children's Hospital, as well as many other events and locals. They are currently working» on, their second album, to be released later this year. Here are some fascinating excerpts from the Halls *and Caldwell biography... He composed a song entitled, entitled, "Float your Fanny Down the Ganny" a satiral work about the 1980 flood of the Ganaraska River at Port Hope. Sales of the recording raised many thousands of dollars for flood damage relief and promoted promoted the now annual Float your Fanny down the Ganny river race. Dr. Caldwell is also quite an athlete. He has completed many marathons - running and crosscountry crosscountry skiing, and has successfully completed the Cape Cod Triathalon. He has also participated in Medical Relief missions with teams of Canadian doctors in Ethiopia and Ecuador. In a word - WOW! The sweet, sweet tones of the Statler Brothers came chanting like spring breezes through the pines, Saturday evening May 7th at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough. Harold, Phil, Jimmy and Don -the famous, award winning Statler Brothers entertained their captive Canadian audience of about 2,400 I'd say, just as energetically and sincerely, with all the kidding around they do so well,, as they might have done for a crowd of many thousands more. Music is surely the languages of the world.. See it, Héhr it, Feel it Live! It'll grab you, thrill you" and put some simple pleasure inside of you..There is really nothing like being being part of an audience on the receiving end of live, fresh entertainment, entertainment, whether it be for the love of laughter, music or dramà. You should treat yourself soon! In the, air and throughout the halls at Newtonville Public School last week, was a whole lot of joy! Vice principal Wayne McCurdy and his wife Jeanette Drury became gratulations to Wayne and Jeanette on a beautiful "A-Plus" term result. Kindest, happiest of wishes came in from fellow teachers, parents and quite excitingly - from the students. Little Scoops... -Some church news this week.. -An exceptionally good turnout at church for the Mother's Day, baptismal baptismal service. Always nice to see everyone. -The UCW here in Newtonville will be celebrating their anniversary on Sunday, May 29th with a special service. Popular speakers Roy and Jean Bickle will be in attendance. Many are familiar 1 with Roy and Jean, formerly of Newtonville, who have been missionaries in Germany. Everyone is welcome to come out on the 29th of May, to enjoy what promises to be an interesting time, both educationally and musically. -Also, directly following the special anniversary service, the Stewards and the Session of the church are planning a scrumptious breakfast. Tickets are now on sales for this fundraising do. Contact Mrs. .Vinkle for further details. Mary Vinkle, Marlene Stacey and Lena Clysdale. Always pleasurable, -The latest news on the proposed sub-development here in town tells us (1) 66 units are still in the plan, but lot sizes are extended to one- half acre, and (2) no motel-plan calls for a senior citizens residence, designed with individual selfefficiency selfefficiency units. Hmmm, interesting.. interesting.. -It's a long, drawn-out process "making" people clean up their own self-made dumpsites and .disaster areas. It would be nice, wouldn't it if it was done in more of a neighbourly sort of way, maybe getting that half buried self-pri back into gear, quietly, smooth'., and beautifully! -"Bet your Bower they had a great time!" With thirteen tables, last Friday's, key euchre results enthusiastically enthusiastically came in from our Newtonville Hall; high scores were: 84 for Nettie Gordon, 83 for Alec Moffat, 79 for Edna Porter, 77 for Inez Bougben, 77 for Alf Pickett and 74 for Marg Linton. The winners winners of the 50/50 draw that night, split three ways were Edna Dickson, Nettie Gordon and Alf Pickett. Isn't the weather wonderful? Even the people are more wonderful wonderful than usual. Mother Nature sure holds the feather that tickles our fancy! Enjoy!
