In conjunction with the papermaking demonstration, visitors can try printing from hand carved wood printing blocks. This demonstration is open to all ages! Using pre-1840 methods, wood blocks were used for book (and newspaper/journal) illustration. Come and explore this wonderful art form at the Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. New Exhibit opening June 2, 1988 On Thursday, June 2, "TAKE IT! IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!" will open for a two month run. The exhibit exhibit outlines early medicine with an emphasis on Clarke Township Doctors. Doctors. Also featured, patent medicine, doctors implements, and little known lore tp delight and fascinate! Our season opened with a meeting in March at which we had 18 members sign up who all enjoyed making a craft to take home. Our new Junior Gardeners are Lia Rutherford, Alison Finlay, Mark Rutherford, Tanya Ferguson, Amy Jackson, Christina Jackson and Laura McDonald. Welcomé to all. We were very pleased to have Mark Rutherford take home a first prize from the District Convention in April in Oshawa. This was his first ever exhibit and we are certain he will continue to do well. At our April meeting we learned about house plant propogation and each member has given several plant cuttings to take home to grow. Later this summer we will compare to see how well they have done. The Junior Gardeners thank all those who so willingly donated plant cuttings for this project. Our first flower show this year brought 12 members together, 63 James Earl, son of Murray and the late Audrey Walton. The wedding is to take place September 10, 1988. Annual Flea Market and Book Sale On Saturday, June 25 the Clarke Museum will once again be hosting it's very successful FLEA MARKET AND BOOK SALE. Anyone is welcome to come and book a booth. If you have old treasures or just about anything then call the Museum and book a space. Fee for participating is $15. All proceeds go directly to fund Museum projects. So clean out that attic/garage/or whatever, make a little pocket money for yourself and help support the Museum at the same time! Babes In Bookland by Dorothy Robinson Last month, I recommended a book "Love You Forever" which lends itself to the sentiments expressed expressed on Mother's Day. It is not to easy to find a simple children's book keyed to a relationship with "good old Dad." However, "Daddy-Care" fills the bill in an amusing way. Using the ploy of role reversal, the author shows Danny, the son, urging Dad to get up, dress, and breakfast without "dilly-dallying." Then it's off to daycare for Dad while Danny heads for a serious business like session at school. As with "Love You Forever,'" the appeal is there for both children and adults. Children love to see the young boy in charge, and adults are tickled by the show and tell session where the Dads boastfully display their convertibles and vans. This is another book from Annick Annick Press which is giving publishing opportunities to many talented Canadian authors and illustrators illustrators Torontonian Allen Morgan became interested in children's books while teaching kindergarten. It was from this experience experience with young children that his story ideas developed. He has a son of his own too.
