t 8-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, July 27, 1988 Northumberland and Newcastle Summer School Over 200 children from the area and ranging from grade one to grade eight have completed completed their summer school schedule at Waverly Public School in Bowman ville. The school operated from July 4th to July 22nd and was held during during the mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There were two sessions each morning with a wide range of interests for the students. The^phoice could be made from Remedial and enriched Language Arts and Mathematics for all levels along with Remedial Immersion French for grades 4 to 8 and Remedical Computer Assisted Learning again for grades four to eight. Other courses included Enriched Arts such as drama, music, and visual arts, environmental environmental studies, instrumental instrumental music, enriched computers and enriched core french. The school had some forty computers available for the popular computer courses in assistaed learning. Studentvteacher ratio for computers and other courses was very high thus becoming more meaningful for the students attending. David Wolff, co-ordinator, states the school had a fine staff of teachers who had been very co-operative and had enjoyed the school activities and learning learning experiences noted with the children. The schedule of event included included an Open House and as well as fun day on the last day of the school. In total the Board of Education Education operated four summer schools this year being at Waverley in Bowman ville, at Brighton Public School, at C.R. Gummow Public School in Cobourg and at Hillcrest Public School in Campbellford. Loan Hall Board $10,000 for new windows , The Town of Newcastle council has given their approval to a loan of $10;000, interest free, for the installation installation of new windows in the Village of Newcastle Town Ha}} It was pointed out that the existing existing windows are single glass windows windows and were installed in 1922. The cost of heat of the hall is expected expected to be reduced by 10 to 25 percent over the existing cost.
