The Scarborough site is some 457 acres and is estimated to be able to take 18 million tonnes of garbage. There are 12 homes and three farms on the site, a site that is o*med by the province province of Ontario. There are 97 homes within half a mile of the site. Helen MacDonald, a member of a Newcastle organization fighting Metro garbage states it's not over until it's over and that any Newcastle site is still a possibility. MacDonald said she knew how Scarborough residents would feel about the report but stated, "Nobody is going to acr cept it here (Newcastle). The Metro report will be presented to the Metro Public • Works committee this Thursday and as of Monday 20 individual organizations in the Scarborough Scarborough area have sought to speak in opposition to the report. There are some forty organizations within the area and all would be in opposition to the recommendation. Scarborough politicians are also up in arms and ready to take the issue to Metro. The three sites which were under review by the Metro consultants consultants in Newcastle included a site south of 401 between Ontario Ontario Hydro Darlington plant and Darlington Park and two sites in the Morgan Road areas west of Newtonville. Wednesday, August 10% IW* Lease error of lands at Wilmot Creek development affects 55 meeting, August 11th A lease mix-up at the Wilmot Creek development south of 401 Highway and west of Newcastle Village has some residents of the development ready to sue the developer, the Rice Group, The lease mix-up affects 55 home owners on a 13 acre parcel of land that is owned by a retired university professor, James Lovekin, of Colborne. His parcel of land is situated in the mi'ddle of the 275 acre development. Lovekin leased the 13 acres to Ontario Hydro in 1974 for the hydro transmission line for a twenty-five year period which expires at the end of 1998. Ontario Hydro then subleased subleased the 13 acres to the Rice Group on which 55 homes were built. The home owners signed land leases for à 20 year period with the Rice group in 1985 and later and felt they were assured of maintaining their home on , the property until at least 2005. In April of 1988 Phillip Sanford, Sanford, lawyer, acting on behalf of Lovekin notified the 55 residents that his client, Lovekin, was entitled to order the removal of the homes 90 days after the lease expires on December 31,'1998. Owners are st.ating that as long as the lease mix-up continues continues there is little value to their homes and would be impossible to sell- ' ' r '• Max Rice, owner of Rice Developments, has been reported to state that the company company did make an error in issuing issuing the 20 year leases on Lovekin's land but had offered to buy the homes at njarket value.
