Orono Weekly Times> Wednesday, August 24, 1988-3 X.:.. : . - ' . .. , v Did you have a nice 30th? Agree to disagree As most may know there is some dissension as to the colour combination combination as exists at our new administration administration building in Bowman- ville of which I had the opportunity some weeks back to view with a number of members of council. It all happened when I met Marie Hubbard on the street who extended extended an invitation to view the building with members of council, the architect architect and the chief administrative officer. On walking to the main entrance doors I commented that I did like the doors painted black and surely would not like to see that colour changed now. "Tell Frank", came the retort from Marie Hubbard which brought me to realize that Frank Stapleton was one in opposition to black paint doors. Some time later in the viewing Diane Hamre brought up the blue upper trim around the new addition and asked my opinion. "It has grown on me", I said, "I have no problem With it now". To be honest on this it did rather shock me the first time I saw it but truthfully I have become accustom ed to the blue cap. "Ah you", said Diane Hamre who then went on to explain'that council was not going to rush into any change at the present timc'and would wait to see the whole thing when completed. "We have agreed to disagree", she said. I thought at this point that this colour business was over for the rest of the tour but it was not to be. Arnott Wotten pointed to the outside south yellow wall. "What do you think of that?", he asked. Again I had to be positive and saw nothing wrong with the yellow. Certainly its not a Sunoco yellow and it does break the monotony of this particular large exterior wall. The answer to the question did nothing for Arnott who spun around on his heel and left. Frank Stapleton then escorted me for a closer look at those black painted solid oak doors pointing out the shame of painting oak black. No matter how I look at it from my perspective I still like the black doors and now anything else on that building would be 'blah'. The black seems to give some kind of character that the building needs. It sets it off. To agree to disagree is a - good solution, at this point, on the part of council members. And it could look a lot 1 different when completed. completed. Let's not tear the building apart before it is completed. I Ijiink that most people will be impressed with the building and I would think be supportive of retaining retaining and rejuvenating the old town hall.
