One of the Speak of town-wide garbage collection The Town of Newcastle, according according to discussion at Monday's council meeting, has yet to receive a $28.00 a tonne rebate for garbage tipped at the Brock West site. Counc. Cowman had asked if the rebate had yet been received to which the treasurer said no. The treasurer did state that a report would be forthcoming for council members. Counc. Cowman estimated the yearly rebate for the Town should be in the area of $60,000 to $70,000 and asked if there would be a rebate for rural residential residents who now are served by private pick-up. ■ Counc. Hamre said under the present system the rural residents would not receive a rebate but said this would change when the Town instituted a Town-wide garbage service service as of January 1st, 1989. Counc. Hamre praised the council council members in their support of the Town-wide service early this summer. summer. In June council authorized the public works department to negotiate a Town-wide pick-up service service with BFI. The report is expected expected to be in the hands of council in September. Although the public works authorization gained support of all council members in June there were questions if this would be further discussed when the cost of townwide townwide pick-up is known. At that time Mayor Winters said it would be open for debate. For those who are new to our community or those who have never dealt with us, I will provide . some background information. The G.P.R. Kinettes were chartered May 11, 1974. There were *19 enthusiastic mejmbers. Through the years we have been involved » with spoçts groups, seniors groups, schools both elementary and sécondary and virtually every aspect of the community. We have provided bingos, dances, children's Christmas.parties and many other forms of entertainment. We have donated to many worthwhile causes but our national charity remains the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Foundation. Membership decline has been a problem and therefore we start this year with 4 members. We are small , but productive. Last year, with 4 members as well, we raised and donated almost $2,(XX).
