It operates similar to Crime Stoppers program. Bell took the action following a number of acts of vandalism disrupting service in the Oshawa area as well as damage to a number of Bell trucks. Damage has been mounting into thousands of dollars. Asks industry to conserve power Ontario Hydro is asking industry to conserve power over the next 12 to 15 years until another generating station can be built. Bob Franklin, hydro chairman, has stated that it is a lot cheaper to conserve rather than to build generating station for energy that we waste. Herrema disappointed with Metro Being feed-up with Metro's line of communication as to a joint dump for Durham and Metro Gary Herrema, chairman of the Region thinks it is time that the Region went on its own. Reeve faces ■ challenge in Hamilton Township A Hamilton Township businessman will try to upset Reeve Jack Avery in the November municipal election. Maurice Endicott is eager to become involved in the debate over the county's next landfill site on Oliver's Road near Cobourg. He states he wants to be on county county council to oppose the purchase of the dump site at $800,000 and as well the expenditure of $500,000 for a new township office building. Group organizing to oust Ed Broadbent The right-wing National Citizens' Coalition expects to announce in two weeks a "Defeat Ed Broadbent Committee" which is to work to defeat the NDP leader in his own" riding. The group circulated 60,000 letters letters in the Oshawa area in August and is contacting those who responded positively to their request request for assistance and funding. Three new pieces of equipment The Port Hope District hospital is to have the services of three new pieces of equipment bringing the level of health service in the area to an all-time high. The equipment includes an EKG Stresser, a colonoscope and a Echocardiograph/Doppler/Ultra- sound. The latter equipment costs will be borne by MDS Laboratories who will pay a rental space for the equipment at Port Hope. The other pieces of equipment are expected to cost $41,000. Impaired offences average 46 a year The average of impaired convictions convictions in Port Hope continues on an average of 46 with a high of 61 for one particular year. Warkworth MD may meet with Ben Dr. Mauro Di Pasquele, a Warkworth physician once practiced practiced with Dr. Jamie Astaphan, now Ben Johnson's physician and it is reported that DiPasquele has been invited to consult with the runner's camp. Durham College Aviation • Students Win Contest Durham College students in the Aviation Transport aqd Industrial Engineering Technology ' Program won three awards at a recent annual paper airplane . contest at the University of 1 pronto. This is an annual event where post-secondary students in the Metro area involved in Aviation Training compete in the skills of paper airplane Construction. It is sponsored by the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. Durham College won the Team Endurance prize, the Individual Aerobatics prize and the Individual Endurance prize. For the latter, Shawn More set a new record Of 13.5 seconds. The other student winners were "lari'"Eggleston", Tohn Shulty, and Johrt Skinner. Also participating in this evd^_> were students from the University of Toronto, Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Seneca College and Centennial College.
