Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, October 19, 1988-7 Looking for straight shooters It's all in fun and for a good cause, the United Way.. Heather Lynn, Tammy Gylytiuk, Kirby Eady and Brenda Milton reload water guns being Used to shoot out the candles in pumpkins in the background. It was all taking place at the Pines Sienior Public School last week at noon hour when a number of games were being played by students who had purchased tickets to do so. George keeps looking south It has been written that, "In spring spring a young mans fancy turns to love" by the same token (I presume) "in fall an older mans fancy turns to a vacation down south!!" I hasten to explain that "older" can mean a little past thirty! ! and as you all know I fall into that category. And so it came to pass that Lynne and I returned recently from a travel agency armed with brochures. From most of the organizations that promise you sunny sunny days, three meals a day, all the rum you can drink, dancing the nights away under a "tropical" moon, etc., if this seems almost too good to be true - it most certainly is! ! When you come down off cloud nine to the reality, (which as usual is the bottom line) you find that for fourteen days of tropical sunshine (less two days flying time) you're getting all this for the measly sum of between three and five thousand bucks!! Give or take a little either way twenty years ago that would have been the down payment on a house!! We talked about it and realized that those sunny days had suddenly become Cloudy, the three meals per day were still extant, the rum was still a possibility (weaker and more expensive, but not impossible) the tropical moon? - Well we've both got memories and yes we have done it before, and as for dancing the night away - a couple of tapes playing playing island music in our rec room, and we can dance all we want without being jostled by dozens of other couples, who are intent on enjoying enjoying themselves, no matter what the cost. And they still have to face the flight home, a few thousand bucks poorer and it's bound to be snowing when they land in Toronto!! Toronto!! You know, that princely sum will still be earning interest in my account account anyway! And I don't havt to leave the house (except to shovel the aforementioned s^ow). However, I grant you things could qjhange - but I doubtfit. I might win a lottery for instance, but that wouldn't help, for I'd pro bably have a heart attack. A rich relative might bequeath me a fortune, but I unfortunately have very few relatives, rich or otherwise, and last but not least, Lynne might talk me into a vacation anyway. She usually gets her own way regardless, and so on that note, and as usual "it's being so cheerful that makes me miserable!!" To all you good folk who will doubtlessly vacation somewhere, have fun, come back safe (and broke).
