Pathfinder receives her Canada Cord Nicole French, a member of the Orono Pathfinders, was presented with the Canada Cord in a ceremony held on Monday evening at the John Breen Hall at St. Saviour's Anglican Church. There was an excellent attendance of Guides, Pathfinders, and parents for.this auspicious occasion. Nicole has been an outstanding ■ member of * the Orono Guiding system being a Brownie, a Guide and a Pathfinder. She now advances advances to Rangers. Nicole is pictured above with her parents, Roger and Janet French, brother Robert and leader, Pam Allin. The community extends congratulations congratulations to Nicole for her achievements in the Guiding organization. GRCA okays merger talks The Ganaraska Region Conservation Conservation Authority has opened channels channels to consider a mergern with' three neighbouring authorities. Those under consideration are; Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority, the Lower Trent Conservation Conservation Authority and the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Ross Stevenson, P C., takes 9000 edge in Durham Ross Stevenson, a former M.P.P. and cabinet minister, was the decided winner in Durham Riding for the Progressive Progressive Conservatives on Monday Monday with a 9000 vote edge over his closest rival, Doug Moffatt, Ross Stevenson Liberal when seventy-two percent percent of the riding electors went to the polls. Unofficial results on Monday placed Stevenson with 24,067 votes and Moffatt with 15,100. Stevenson was the winner in the majority of polls throughout the riding. Marg Wilbur for the NDP had a strong showing with 10,336 votes. John Kuipers for the Christian Christian Heritage Party polled 1665 while Harold Tausch for the ' Green Party polled 314 and Rolf Posma for the Libertarians polled 324. It was the first time that the Christian Heritage Party Party and the Green Party had entered candidates in this area. 1 There were a total of .216 polls in the riding of Durham. . In the three Orono Polls, 175, 176 and 177A and B, Stevenson polled 293 votes, Moffatt 326 ' and Wilbur 149. The annual- Town Hall Craft Show and Sale opened Friday afternoon afternoon and continued through until Sunday afternoon. They report a large increase in attendance and interest interest and during periods on Friday (Continued page 3) Pines students support United Way On Monday of this week the Pines Senior Public School presented to the United Way of Oshawa-Whitby-Newcastle a sum of $567.90 which was raised through an number' of endeavours at the school over the past couple of months. TOWN HALL CRAFT SHOW A BIG SUCCESS** The Orpno Town Hall Christmas Craft Show was a big success, success, reporting that between 600-700 people went through the Town Hall this weekend. The show started at 4:00 p.m. and got a big push after the carol sing. People were wall to wall for the rest of the evening. evening. Twenty-one vendors participated this year and were pleased and happy with sales and have plans for returning next year.
