8-Ôrono Weekly Times, Wednesday, December 14, 1988 Clarke High School Report by Heidi Jenkins During this festive season Clarke High School has once again introduced introduced a door decorating contest. Each classroom can decorate their door anyway to represent the Christmas Spirit. The doors will be judged by some of the teachers on the Clarke High School staff, and the best and original decorated door will win a prize. The judging will take place on Thursday, December 15th and Friday, Friday, December 16th. Good luck goes out to all the student's student's who participate in this event. Pines School News Report Many events have been happening happening at The Pines Senior Public School as everyone gets ready for Christmas. On Tuesday, December 6th, the class of 7C attended a play at Young People's Theatre in Toronto. Toronto. The play was called "Dracula." The class left at 11:00 a.m. and returned at 4:30 p.m. The show was very well acted and suspense-filled. It was enjoyable by everyone. We are proud to announce that The P ( ines has elected its new student student council. Members are President President Adam Stephenson of 8D, Vice-President Jodi Faulkner of 8A, Secretary Kim Burke of 8B, and Treasurer Maggie Sotiriadis of 8C, The class representatives are Tristina Hickson, 7C, Tracy Rud- dell, 7A, Stephen Shetler, 7B, Jason Twardowski, 7D. We recently caught up with Adam Stephenson and asked him a few questions about school situations and things, he wishes to improve. Some of the things Adam wants to work on are: to get more frequent and longer dances, to purchase more physical education equipment and to improve improve the lunch specials. Adam hopes to be remembered as a good leader. The girls and boys Grade- 8 volleyball teams have successfully completed their seasons. They * finished the season winning the silver medallions. The boys finished with 17 wins and 7 losses and the girls were a bit more successful than the boys, winning 18 games and losing losing only 6. On Wednesday, December 14th at Clarke High School the Grade 7 teams par- * ticipated in a tournament. The names of the players of the 4 teams were as follows: Boys School Team - Jason Hansen, Richard Jenkins, Chris Yep, Derek Middleton, Middleton, Philip Plath, Trevor Lomax, Jeremy Piels, Matthew Coyle, Adam Stephenson, Exlan Davies and Daryl Reid. Grade 7 Boys Team - Evan Davies, Daryl Reid, Jeff Pearce, Aaron Staples, Jamie Lovekin, Tom Tamblyn, Tyler Sokolojuk, Jeff Darrach and Dwayne Morton. The Girls School Team - Nina Darach, Kim Burke, Michelle Ross, Jenny Bbrney, Robyn Ewert, Kirby Eady, Danielle Peel, Heather Lynn and Jenny Goodmurphy. The Grade 7 Girls Team - Alana White, Andrea Hartmann, Hartmann, Katie Climenhage, Amanda Garnett, Barbara Whiffen, Carrie McCurdy, Tanya Mercer, Bobbie Taylor, Kathleen Minnis and Karen Vanderveen. From the office come these important important dates. On Wednesday December 5th and 12th, Mrs. Clayton-Ross came to meet with all the Grade 8 students to discuss class choices at Clarke High School. Also on Wednesday, The Pines students received their report cards. The staff of The Pines held parent interviews interviews on Thursday and Friday, December 8th and 9th. On Thursday, Thursday, December 15th, The Pines students will join Clarke for the annual annual Christmas Concert at which the bands of each school perform for each other. On the morning of December 16th, The Pines will be holding a Christmas assembly. In the days before Christmas, The Pines will be holding a food drive for the Salvation Army. History comes alive! As you read a few weeks ago the students of The Pines entered the Board History Fair. Two live performances performances and one video presentation presentation were entered. Christmas Windows Several Grade 8 students had the opportunity to paint the windows at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Newcastle. If you are in Newcastle make a point to look at their fine effort. On Friday, December 9th from 10:30 - 3:00 hot cider was served by students from The Pines at the bank. So far - so good - Girls's volleyball The girls' volleyball team is doipg very well this season. So far they have 10 wins and 2 losses. The coaches for this very prosperous team are two very helpful teachers, Mr. Staples, Mrs. Gibson, and a very helpful parent volunteer Mr. Mike White. The finals began on December 7th. The Pines would like to wish the boys' and girls teams luck. Thought of the Week Good, Better, Best! and I'll never rest 'till my good is better and my better is best! Kendal Hall News Report On Thursday, December 1st, the boys and girls of the J.O.L. met, when a new member was accepted into their Lodge. Plans were made for their Christmas party, to be held Sunday, December 18th, in the afternoon. All members of the Orange Family, welcome. On Wednesday, December 7th, the mens L.O.L. met when 2 new members joined the Lodge. On Thursday-, December 8th, the ladies of Kendal Hills L.O.B.A. met. The ladies of Tyrone L.O.B.A., were guests for pot-luck supper, and conducted conducted the election and installation, of Officers. On Friday, December 9th, there were 11'A tables of euchre, high score, Alec Moffat; 2nd Pearle Clarke; 3rd Helen Couroux; 4th Cathy Switzer; 50/50 draw was won by Wayne Lowery.
