Skaters accepted for evaluation Three Orono Figuré Skaters, Briar Ransberry, Tracy Eames and Tanya Ciemens, of theJocal skating club have been accepted to be evaluated by the Ontario Skaters' Development Evaluation Program, The program is sponsored by the Ontario Council and the Canadian Figure Skating Association. Town tables Hartwig The General Purpose Committee of the Town of Newcastle tabled an application for rezoriing submitted by Mel and Rose Mary Hartwig on Monday for a one month period. The application sought permission through the rezoning to permit the parking of five pieces of excavating equipment and office facilities. Councs. Stapleton and Wotten presented the tabling motion supported supported by the majority of councillors councillors with the exception of councillor councillor Hooper and Mayor Hubbard. Counc. Stapleton noted that the Ganaraksa Region Conservation Authority had not as yet submitted their report as to the application. The General Purpose committee on Monday recommended recommended that the,project be considered for 1989 and that appropriate funds be.provided in the budget. Provision was made' in 1988 capital budget for the design in 1988 and construction 'in 1989 'of Som- merville Drive, Victoria Street and Church Street south. The project, if approved by council, would include excavation, granular base, hot mix paving, storm sewers and sidewalks. The proposal did receive favour- ble comments at an information centre in Orono in November of 1988. Various options were considered for Victoria Street which has only 40 feet in width. The paved street will be 22 feet in width rather than the usual 26 feet: and the street will become a one-way street in a westbound westbound direction. The public works department held other Information Centres last fall for other areas of the municipality. The Bowmanville works include a $850,000 project for Ontario Street from King Street to Liberty Street. Also the widening of Highway 2 from Simpson to Soper Creek, the widening of the bridge and reconstruction on Mearns Avenue to Orchard Park Drive at an estimated cost of $1.230 million. 1 These projects will also be considered considered by council in setting their 1989 capital budget. King has been an employee of the local Co-op for the past fifteen months and has experience in retail- sales with a Computer firm and with Zellers. Fran Rickard, ' the former manager, has left the Co-op to open her own business in Woodville.
