Orono Tykes up to play a strong game It was another close game for the Orono Tykes this past Saturday afternoon as they went down to defeat at the hands of the Millbrook squad by a score of 3-2. There was lots of ice time for everyone as four boys were off sick. The boys had a chance to play most every position and did a good job adjusting. Orono controlled most of the play in the first period. Murphy Murphy Irvine worked his way through several opposition players in making making a* rink long drive to the Millbrook net. Then with just the goalie to beat he waited for the net- rninder to make the first move and flipped a shot up over the sprawling goalie. This proved to be all the scoring for the first period. In the second period again the Orono boys looked strong as they kept the pressure on Millbrook. Orono net minder Jamie Parry was well on his way towards a second shutout in a row as he kicked out several opposition shots. Early in the second period Orono's Andrew Reid found the Millbrook goal' to put our boys up 2-0. Assisting on the play were Bobby Witheridge and Kyle Beacock as the boys started to put together some of the fine passing plays they have been working on in practice. The rest of the period was very closely matched and the next goal did not come until 3 minutes left in the second period as Millbrook finally found an opening opening past Jamie. Unfortunately it was about/this time that all the double double shifting began to show on our boys as their momentum seemed to faulter slightly. With just seconds remaining in the second period Millbrook scored again. The period dosed tied at two. In the opening minutes of the third period Millbrook scored again taking a 3-2 lead in the game. You would think that this would have been enough to kill the spirits of our boys but they fought back. Both teams had their chances but there were no more goals to be had. It was a very good game for our boys. Millbrook has a strong experienced experienced squad and we do well to stay with them. Keep up the good work boys! To the boys off sick, Andrew Beacock, Kevin Copping, Alan Robb and Tyler Robinson, "Get Well Soon" because we need you. Next game Friday, January 20th at 6:15 p.m. Atoms take tough loss from Markham On Tuesday, January 10th Orono lost a heartbreaker of a game to Markham by the score of 5-3. Orono came out of the gates quickly quickly and at the end of the first period held a 2-1 lead on goals by Jonathan Burnham (unassisted) and Jeff Gates from Jamie Shetler and Jeff Goodmurphy. But then a strange thing happened. Orono went as flat as a pancake (emotionally) (emotionally) and allowed Markham to score 3 unanswered goals. Orono struggled back into the match when Simon Weagant notched a goal with assists from Jonathan Burnham and Tom Wakefield. However, Markham notched the final marker and despite pulling goalie Jeff Parry in the final minute Orono could not score again. Final score Markhaip 5, Orono 3.
