Doreen Lowery heads-up Orono Horticultural Society for 1989 The Ministry of Health's Assistive Devices Program will provide provide financial assistance for the purchase purchase of hearing aids for all Ontario residents who need them, Health Minister Elinor Caplan announced today. The grants are based on 75 per cent of the median cost in each of four categories of hearing aids: behind the ear, in the ear, canal and special hearing aids. The ministry will provide $16 million to cover costs of the 1989-90 program, which is retroactive to December 12, 1988. The program now provides financial financial assistance to about 1,800 people under the age of 25 at an annual cost of about $1 million. An estimated 35,000 additional clients, who will gain access to the program by contacting their family physicians, physicians, audiologists or hearing aid dispensers, are expected to join the . program annually. A new board, to be designated by the ministry, will monitor and provide provide quality assurance guidelines for those who test and dispense hearing aid equipment. This will be undertaken undertaken in collaboration with the Canadian Hearing Society, the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners, the Ontario Association Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists, the Canadian Hard of Hearing Associations Associations and consumer representatives. Following the blessing, everybody enjoyed the bountiful buffet and the scrumptious desserts. Each person was given a copÿ of the 1988 Activity Report of the Society along with a 1988 Financial Report.
