"Way Down In Kokomo." Come one come all to the Pines spirit day. If you were to visit the Pines on Thursday, January 26th you would have probably needed sunglasses. To show their spirit each student was required to dress up in Hawaiian clothes or patterns. Points were awarded to the house with the most students dressed up. " Also last week at the Pines on January 27th there was core day for each student to catch up on missed work or uncompleted work. We would also like to inform you that there was a dance held at St. Francis of Assisi on January 27th, Of course, the well behaved Pines students were invited. The admission admission was $2.00 and it was open to all students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The D.J. was Randy Cowan. Proceeds went to St. Francis playground and other benefits. "Oh boy! " Just George • • • / i Welcome to 1989. That, I admit is a little late, for we're almost into February, but I must confess that 1 had written a sto'ry for you a couple of weeks ago, that 1 thought was one of rfty better endeavours, but after checking it several times, I decided that it "may" have infringed infringed on some peoples principles and therefore it remains in my files. (Better safe, than sorry!!) However, I feel sure that most you will agree, that this must be the most benign winter we have experienced for several years - so far!! And we're not alone. My relatives in England tel! me (on tape) that they can't remember a winter like it: They're actually walking around in Londorf without topcoats, and with indoor heat turned down, even the flowers arc growing and in bud in their garden. However, I understand that some of inv neighbours have already been "south of the border", and some others are getting ready to go, (I guess yoti fall into both of those categories Marg!!), and I wish you all well. I think that: Orono did itself proud over the holiday season, the stores really excelled in extolling the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately there have been several personnel changes since then, "Cindy has left Beckers and she was a personality we will sorely miss, the local bank has seen some personnel changes too - whom we will also miss I'm sure - and, of course the L.C.B.O, has moved out to the LG.A. area. (Unfortunately one needs a good set of springs, and steely determination to get into the area after a snowfall) but the competent and pleasant staff make the trip worthwhile. Congratulations anyway to Dave, and Vic. Not t.o mention Audrey and Dale - they make the hazards minimal. Our little dog "Princess' who is now one year old, just loves the snow (much to my surprise) and spends most of her time ferociously chasing the squirrels oil the propet- It looks as though "we're" going to have a rather full summer, (so what else is new?) for several friends from overseas have indicated indicated they may be visiting us this year. These include Australia, New Zealand, and possibly the USA and (or) England. I'm beginning to think we're a miniature league of nations! ! ! But be honest, we love it. You know, combined with the many friends we have in this village and knowing that you can't put a price oh friendship, we are literally millionaires. So to wrap this story up - and as an after thought, last week I visited my doctor for a flu shot,,- (having passed "30" years qld, I thought it might be a wise precaution) the same evening 1 started aching, sweating, and sneezing, and now a week later, I'm still suffering - so much for flu shots.. Have a good day, and "Winter Well".
