It was a proud day for Newton- ville when grade 4 student Stephen Mark came out on top in the speech presentation event at Newcastle/Newtonville Public Schools. Students from all grades 4, 5 and 6 from both school campuses went to alot of work, diligently writing their individual speeches, to be delivered in front of classmates. Finalists were difficultly chosen by judges, from Newtonville. They went on to Newcastle Public School to "compete" alongside the three grades there. Other Newtonville School finalists in the public speaking contest contest were: Ryan Farrow, Erin Muizelaar, Paul Sharpe, Gillian Lucy, Catherine Carr, Christina Reed, Sarah Melhuish and Sara Shelley Brown and Betty Stapleton The somewhat dreary weather wasn't even noticed this past Saturday, Saturday, March 4, as radiant bride,' Shelley Brown readied for her special day getting loving hugs from' lifelong friend Betty Stapleton. Shelley, daughter of Ross and the late Ina Brown of Newtonville was a vision of true loveliness, as she calmly floated about the Stapleton household on the morning of her wedding day. The bridesmaids, dressed in gorgeous emerald green lace were quite the lovely picture themselves. Trish and Tara Stapleton of Newtonville and Lisa Charland of Orono were among the attendants, as was Marty Brow A. Officiated by Rev. Bryan Ran- 5pm, Kevin Rank and Shelley Brown were united in marriage at the Newtonville United Church, sharing their happiness with the many friends and relatives, present. The couple will reside in Millbrook. They send heartfelt thanks to everyone for making this wedding day wonderful. « Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Rank. Happiness always! Little Scoops... - Walking by our new wee playground the other day, 1 couldn't help close my eyes and imagine imagine what it would be like, in just a matter of weeks. Surrounded by green, green, green, the swings and teeter-totters will be pretty active with all the tots giggling and enjoying enjoying the outdoors again. A simple joy we all can partake of. - Get well soon wishes to home- again Phyllis Peck of Newtonville. Phyllis had quite a stay at Peterborough Peterborough Hospital. She is looking forward to spring and gradually getting getting her spunk back. Keep well, Phyl. Nice to see you about again. - Birthday Greetings on March 9th, to Wally Boughen, Newtonville's "unofficial Mayor." - Remember the pot luck dinner for couples, at the home of Ron and Arlene Phillips, this Saturday, March 11, (786-2099). The dinner precedes the Old Tyme Country Newman. The three speakers who were selectd to represent Newtonville Newtonville on March 2nd were Erin Muizelaar, Stephen Mark and Ryan Farrow. Young Stephen talked enthusiastically enthusiastically about his summer vacation. About the lake and his family's adventures in the outdoors. outdoors. His words conjured up images images that put smiles in the eyes and touched the hearts of the judges again. Stephen came in first overall. Steve's mom and dad, Connie and Joe and all the rest of his family here in town are very proud. So are we. Congratulations Stephen! Dance scheduled for Saturday/night at Newtonville Hall. All welcome to come out and enjoy the "Woods" at the dance. - I understand that if anyone is interested interested in purchasing a home or, finding out more information about the particular residential development development down by the school, they must contact the developer, as posted on the sign at the site. - The date has been set - April 8th. Newtonville Church will host an evening of lively entertainment by the Northumberland Sweet Adelines, with guest appearances by the Chapter Quartet and a barber shop quartet from the Pine Ridge Singers. The performance starts at 7:45 p.m. Tickets should be reserved as soon as possible as they are limited, Cost - $6.00 each. Tickets will also be available to include dinner as well, at $16.00 each. Promises to be a great evening. evening. - April 15 is the date set for the Newtonville Pastoral Charge Youth Rally, from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Church., There will be three workshops, very interesting guests covering a wide scope of topics, including including music from Christian to Satanic Rock, This is sure to be enlightening. The cost Is $12.00 each, and is open to all youths from grade 8 up. This serious minded all day rally will include the three workshops as well as dinner.
