She certainly captivated her au dience with her address and with the many hints it contained. Councillor Frank Stapleton presented Lisa with a memento from the Town and John Veldhuis, chairman of the committee also made a presentation. It is said that the moving of the two Trans Canada natural gas pipelines is a cause for concern by Trans Canada Pipelines as outlined in one of their letters. The claim that the landfill proposal proposal meets the needs of Newcastle and part of Durham does not exist. It is noted that the large ambunt of garbage now being deposited at the Laidlaw site is from outside eithçr area. Scott points out that although Laidlaw makes claim that the Region has expressed an interest in the Infill proposal it is a fact that the .Town of Newcastle and the Region has turned aside past proposals proposals for expansion. "Laidlaw has received no indication that the Region would entertain a change to the official plan to hllow this Infill", states Scott. The letter states there is considerable considerable local opposition to any ex-' pansion. It is stated that all agencies that have reported on the expansion proposal have notèd the unsuitability unsuitability of the site for such expansion. Scott claims 'that local citizens have seen the unsuitability of th'e site for landfill over the past eighteen eighteen years. The letter states that Laidlaw's main concern for a Environment Protection Act hearing is a matter of a shortened time frame and that they must know by April 1989 so that funding can be made available for any such. expansion plans including including the moving of the pipelines. Scott states it is unreasonable for Laidlaw to expect the Ministry to respond immediately to Laidlaw's time constraints. ' Scott states that in view of the ongoing problems with the site that the Clarke Committee be given the opportunity to review the project in detail on an even playing field. He asks that the Committee be granted "intervenor status" and be given sufficient time and funding resources to fully examine the EASTER SEALS Needs Your Help To Reach Our Objective!
