Some time ago the staff at the Commerce 'in Newcastle Village All throughout last week, students* and teachers enjoyed studies and activities on Japan. The week wound up with several workshops set about the school for students to take part in. The kids' decided to hold several monthly United Way fundraising events throughout the year, instead of one major one. f April brought much success for the United Way, as the ladies of the bank put on a wonder- interest was sparked and they didn't hold back their enthusiasm. There were lessons and tasting on Japanese cooking, karate tips from visiting instructor Dan Britton of ful bake sale a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to all who supported the United Way, and to the caring employees over at the bank. Watch out for a "Western flavour" coming coming in May! Port Hope, games from the Orient and more. I am sure I join all parents in commending the Newtonville school staff on this successful project! Once or twice you have been on the receiving end of my personal feelings about certain very delicate subjects. You know the ones...religion, racism, politics, prejudices or just about plain pride- lacking, garbage collecting people. Sometimes it is very difficult to put into words exactly how something eats at you and makes you tense from your fingertips to your brow. This story is all too common I fear.
