As of September 1989, Newton- ville Public School will be ' a separate identity again. Newtonville was twinned with Newcastle Public School back in 1979. Now that our school population is up - it is sufficient sufficient for a move in this very positive direction. Hip-Hip-Hoorah! For quite a number of years, majority majority of parents have wished that Newtonville be on her own...With one principal and vice principal her own school colours, basic curriculum curriculum and so on. Last fall, kindergarten came home to Newtonville. Come September 1989 grade six will also return, as will two more new portables portables to accommodate students. The fact that pupils will be able to attend one school from kindergarten through to grade 6, and then transfer to The Pines, is far more stabilizing than having to attend Newcastle School for the year of grade 6, and then moving again. This is great! Teachers and kids alike are ready Jnsl. watch lot till that enthusiasm add school spirit as it blossoms out, beginning anytime now! Paul has developed quite a reputation as a talented guitar and banjo player, with a fine ability as a, lyricist. He composed a song entitled, entitled, "Float your Fanny Down the Ganny" about the 1980-flood of the Ganaraska River, which caused ex tensive damage lo the town of Port Hope. Sales of the recording raised thousands of dollars for flood damage relief and promoted the now annual "Float your Fanny Down the Ganny" river race. Auctioneer extraordinaire Frank Stapleton had Mother Nature on his side as an outdoor auction and bake sale was held under sunny skies, this ■ past Saturday, May 6th, on the church grounds. About every two years or so the Newtonville United Church manse committee organizes and puts on a bake sale and auction - to the delight of the community. Personally, I thought it was just plain fun! It was an enjoyable, casual and very country way to put some extra smiles into a Newtonville Newtonville afternoon. Love to see something like this outdoor auction again! Wouldn't you? Thanks go out to organizers for a successful auction event. He has been a pianist and singer for many years, being very active on the music scene in the Cobourg and area performing often at Port Hope's Victoria Flail.
