Newton ville Alive fey Peggy Mullan wmmtmmumÊÊmKmmmmmBmmmmmmaKÊmiamÉmmiiÊiammÊiÊmBKmaÊiaamtmmKmimmK^mKmBaamaammaÊimiaM by Peggy Mullan Most of the world returned back to normal as they headed to work after an absolutely gorgeous, picture-perfect holiday weekend, Traditionally, it is this Victoria Day weekend that marks the unof- ■ ficial start to summer. Cottages are opened up and boats lauhched. Traffic on the highways and biways told the story as thousands headed for the hills. As we took a break from oür outdoor outdoor chores Monday afternoon, I couldn't resist the temptation to wave at the city-bound traffic along Hwy. 2 thinking how lucky we are to be in the country already. Sunday shopping for some reason has been a hot issue with politicians and certain groups. Why? Sunday Shopping is long overdue in my opinion. If some people or organizations don't want it, then they don't have to go shopping. There will always be those willing and wanting to work on Sundays, just as there will always be a market for shoppers. When guests drop in, unexpectedly unexpectedly or for whatever other good reason, it sure would be nice to be able to get to a store. This has surely surely happened to all of us. There are so many more pressing issues in our world and government today...Sunday shopping should not be one of them. Little Scoops... - Heritage Week arrivés beginning this weekend, with activities going on within the Town of Newcastle through to June 3rd. Keep watching the paper for details. Opening ceremonies will be held at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, May 26th at the Town Hall in Bowmanville. Everyone is welcome. Saturday is the big day set for the Heritage Parade which will' begin at 10:00 a.m. downtown Bowmanville. "Be a Part of It!" - Newtonville residents, Phyllis Peck, Berniece Milligan and Lena Clysdale are still enjoying the wonderful thoughts lingering on from their trip to Wallaceburg May 15, 16 and 17. The Newcastle Senior Citizens Chib had. organized this marvellous outing and registration was quick. There was an exquisite dinner with evening entertainment, then a 3 hour boat cruise up to Chatham, a visit to "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and Museum, à walk through a winery and a heavenly lunch at a pretty waterside restaurant. All making for a memorable 3 day vacation. - With the beautiful weather, hopefully permanently with us, you can almost feel the change in the air as the holiday season approaches. Our kids know that the school year is really in sight, and somehow they are more enthusiastic about the last month or so of reading, writing and arithmetic. We might just wonder where all the time has gone... Always an entertaining evening...an auction is set at 7:00 p.m. this Friday, May 26th at the Grist Mill. - Euchre scores came in on a positive note this past Friday, May 19...draw winners were: Don Stapleton, Audrey Graham, Helen McCavish and Alf Pigott. High numbers were 91 for Louise Boyd, 88 for John Foster, 79 for Mildred Britton, 73 for Tom Wilson and 72 for both Bernice Stark and Ed Galipeau. A fine time was had by all! - It is marveipus to see so many people people out and about working to beautify their properties, and their community. I have noticed some of the "dumpy spots of a year ago, are even getting facelifts...and that is terrific! - Thanks to Chris and Elaine of the Orono Times for putting the paper together this week as Roy Forrester is on holidays. Whew! What a weekend..could use a couple of days to recuperate. 1 haven't even been out about town much this past week or more! Always happy to hear from you though with your special contributions contributions for Newtonville Alive. Let's keep in touch! We won't know what His will is unless, we start reading His word. If we had, a rich uncle or a friend maybe perhaps someone we barely knew died and left us a lot of money in his will, unless we were at the reading of the will or someone told us about it we wouldn't know we had received something and couldn't claim it. (New Testament). When Jesus tells us to ask for our daily bread day by day. He supplies our need. We are to ask for forgiveness for our sins, and also to forgive those who have sinned sinned against us. Lead us not into temptation.
