For the first time in many years, Orono is fielding team in the Eastern Ontario Baseball Association Association (E.O.B.A.). The team consists of 12 and 13 year old boys and are being sponsored by various area businesses. Pete Landers, recently elected to Oshawa's Sports Hall of Fame, leads a very experienced coaching staff. Assisting Pete are Craig Houston and Pete Maartense. Craig has many years of baseball experience in Toronto and Peter- boro. Pete Maartense has coached and managed local teams for the past 30 years and in 1976 managed the Kendal Eagles to the Ontario Senior D Championship. The team played it's first game in Pickering on May 20 and came away with a well deserved victory defeating Pickering by a score of 3-0. Orono was led in this contest by the superb pitching of the big right-hander Mike Landers who pitched pitched a well deserved complete game shutout. In his seven inning stint on the mound, Mike gave up just one single, one walk and struck out a total of 9 Pickering batters. Larry Houston, playing second base made the defensive play of the game in the fifth inning when he dove to his right to spear a hard ground ball and recovered in time to throw out the Pickering runner. Orono recorded a total of 7 hits in the game. Leading the team in hitting as well as fielding, was Larry Houston who rang up a double and a single and also scored two runs.
