Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, May 24, 1989-7 Subscribers want service to Oshawa Bell Canada today announced the results of the surveys taken in Orono and. Newcastle by subscribers as to whether they want toll-free access to Oshawa. Results indicated that over 84 percent of subscribers in Orono and 85 Vo of subscribers in Newcastle wanted the Extended Area Service (EAS). , Mrs. Lyttle said Orono and Newcastle have now met all the criteria set by the CRTC: both being being within 40 miles of Oshawa: more than 60 percent of subscribers of both Orono and Newcastle call Oshawa at least once a month and the mail out survey result supports that the majority of Orono and Newcastle subscribers are in favour of Extended Area Service (EAS) to Oshawa'. Orono and Newcastle are each one of approximately 120 Ontario communities eligible for EAS under the revised criteria approved by CRTC on September 29, 1988. Mrs. Lyttle said that because of the high number of communities that became eligible for EAS on that day, Bell filed a proposed schedule of implementation with the CRTC on February 28, 1989 that, paired the EAS implementation implementation date with the equipment modernization schedule. For Newcastle the date of implementation implementation is September 22, 1989 and for • Orono is late 1990. At this time of implementation subscribers will pay a higher monthly monthly rate for the basic service because of the increased local calling calling area. For residential subscribers, the new monthly rate for an individual line will be $8.75, for business subscribers, it will be $29.10.
