Hope Township council's threat to withhold payment of the increased amount for educational educational purposes doesn't really impress the trustees. Hope Township is liable for an additional $245,900 this year over last year of which is billed to residents of the Township. ' Hope wants an explanation of the increase. Diane Stewart, chairman of the public school board, said, "I'm dead set against it." If we have to go' to all 17 municipalities to explain the budget we will not get the issue. . settled until the end of the year. Gary Tushingham, director of education also stated that if the board was considering going before the Township they should consider that they would be setting setting a "dangerous precedent". Wilf Day, a trustee representing representing Hope Township on the Board of Education said he had Last Tuesday evening at the Orono Public school a large audience audience was present when a memorial tribute was observed for Ina Brown, a former teacher at the school. Students provided a program of music while an oil painting by Margaret Clifford was unveiled on the stage by Jeff Hughes, Amanda Coatham, Jeff Finley and Wayne Werry. (The paitning by Margaret Clifford, Clifford, a teacher at the school, was of the former Ina Brown on duty in «the school yard during a student ac tivity period. The painting is to hang in the school. Many many words of praise were expressed by those in attendance as to the commitment as a teacher and person while at Orono Public School. Wheeler of Ontario Provincial Police, Peterborough Peterborough District headquarters is pleased to announce that on Thursday, Thursday, June 22, 1989, the Ontario Provincial Police Awards Presentation Presentation Ceremony will be held at the Holiday Inn, 150 George Street North, Peterborough. Deputy Commissioner J.E. Szarka of General Headquarters will be presenting awards to 12 citizens for acts of bravery in assisting their fellow man. One person, person, a former Force member will be recognized for his substantial contribution contribution to his community. Three other people will,receive St. John's Ambulance Awards for their life saving efforts. In addition 17 Force members will be awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal recognizing recognizing a minimum of twenty years of good service, one Force member will receive a Commissioner's Citation Citation for an act of bravery and a Force civilian employee will receive his twenty year service awards. Fellow trustees were not impressed impressed and the majority of trustees felt that because the municipalities had been invited, in writing, to attend the 1989 budget meetings before the budget was finalized, the time for disucssion had passed.
