Shawn Bailey started it off, heading it in, to give Orono an early 1-0 lead. Jeff Vanhaverbeke scored the next goal to close the 1st half. No goals were scored by Salem in the 1st half, even though there were some wicked shots on net, because of spectacular goaltending by A1 Mathwich. Salem got their Island last goal in the beginning of the 2nd half. After many minutes of nail biting play Orono finally widened the lead with a goal by Terry Beauvais. Soon after Jeff Vanhaverbeke gets the last goal of the evening to give Orono a 4-1 win. Congratulations to Orono on your 4th win in the 4 games. Next game Wednesday night in Orono. PeeWees have a busy week in bail The Orono Peewees had a very hectic week playing a total of 4 games in a span of 6 days. The team played it's home opener, on Tuesday, Tuesday, May 30th against a very good Peterborough team and went down to defeat by the respectable scofe of 8-2. Daryl Reid was given first starting starting assignment of the year and he responded by pitching a solid 3 and onç-third innings, allowing 3 runs on seven hits. Mike Landers relieved* relieved* in the fourth recording the final two outs of the inning. Scott Bor- dun pitched the final two innings giving up one rumon four hits. Mike Landers and Daryl Reid led the Orono hitters at the plate rapping rapping out two hits each. Other Orono hits went to Darryll Houston, Chris Chollette and Paul Woods. Line score: Orono - 2 Runs, 7 Hits, 1 Error; Error; Peterborough - 8 Runs, 8 Hits, 0 Errors. On Thursday, June 1st Orono returned to the local diamond to face the Port Hope Peewees and went down to defeat by the score of 6 to 0. Scott Bordun started the game on the mound for Orono and pitched four innings g'ving up 5 runs on 7 hits and three walks. Scott was relieved by Mike Landers who pitched the final three frames giving up 1 run on 4 hits. Orono managed only three hits of a very good Port Hope hurler. Hits went to Darryll Houston, Paul Woods and Daryl Reid. Line score: Orono - 0 Runs, 3 Hits, 1 Error; Port Hope - 8 Runs, 11 Hits, 0 Errors. ' Orono travelled to Belleville on Saturday, June 3rd and came away with their second win of the young season defeating the Belleville team by a score of 8 to 3. Mike Landers went the distance on the mound bringing bringing his record to 2 and 1 by holding the opposite!) to just 4 hits. Mike also led the Orono hitters stroking a double and two singles. Darryll Houston had two hits with singles going to Larry Houston, Scott Bordun and Aaron Staples. Line score: Orono - 8 Runs, 8 Hits, 1 Error; Belleville - 3 Runs, 4 Hits, 2 Errors. On Sunday, June 4th Orono travelled to the Liftlqck City for a return engagement with the Peterborough Peterborough Peewees and returned with ' a similar result as their encounter earlier in the week. This time Orono lost by a score of 7 to 2. Scott Bordun Bordun pitched the first 4 innings for Orono and did an outstanding job , limiting Peterborough to 3 runs on just 6 hits. Daryl Reid tossed the final two frames giving up 4 runs on three hits. Darryll Houston turned in the defensive gem of the game in the 6th when he threw out a Peterboro runner trying to score from third after a fly ball to deep center field. Mike Landers again led the Orono hitting attack garnering two singles. Chad Maartense stroked a key hit in the first inning and drove in Orono's only two runs of the game. Darryll Houston had Orono's other hit when he stroked a double in the seventh inning. Line score: Orono - 2 Runs, 4 Hits, 1 Error; Peterborough Peterborough - 7 Runs, 9 Hits, 1 Error. Orono plays it's next two games at the Orono Park with Ajax providing providing the opposition on Tuesday, June 6yh and on Thursday, June 8th Whitby comes to town to battle the local squad. Well, the last card party of the season, has come and gone, once again. On Friday, May 28th there were 10 tables in play, high score was held by Grace Trinkwon, 2nd Wayne Lowery, 3rd Charlie Finney, 4th Theresa Langstaff. The 50/50 draw was won by Jack Moffat. Glenn Lowery, was present so he was given the'trophy, for having the highest score of the year 104. Remember there will be card parties in Newtonville all summer, but we will see you all back, in October. On Saturday, June 3rd, the hall was a busy spot,, the men of Kendal L.O.L. 405 held their annual Salad Supper. A delicious meal was served served to a capacity crowd, Brenda Lowery, and members and friends of the Ladies and Junior Lodges were in charge of serving, a job well done and many thanks go to all of you. Following the meal Br. Wayne Lowery introduced the head table and visiting dignitaries. At the head table were Clarence Allin, County Master Victoria Co.; Br. Sherman Erwin, Past Grand Master of Ont. Following these introductions 3 members were honored with 50 year pins, Bro. Lloyd Webb, a former member of Pontypool, presently a member of Kendal, and a long time member of the Kendal Orange Band. Bro. Clarence Allin, who joined in Kendal Kendal and now attends Hartley but has kept a dual membership in Kendal, and often comes down and plays with the band at parades and attends attends functions here. Bro. John Lowery, joined the lodge in Kendal and has held continuous membership membership there, he is a Past Master and held the office of Secretary for 27 years, up to the summer of '83, he played in the Kendal band and was the leader of the band as well, many times travelling all over the countryside countryside to make sure there was a good turn out of band members for a church parade or 12th of July parade. Bros Switzer, Griffin and R. Lowery presented the pins. Bro. Richard Lowery presented the pin to his grandfather and expressed the wish, that his grandfather would be around to present him Ms 50 year Pin. The draws of the evening were won by Mrs. Robt. Cameron, R.R. 5, Bowman ville $10.00 money tree, door prize. $50.00 money draw Helen Sheppard, Castleton, $10.00 money draw, Mrs: Pat Forsey, Seek greater funding for handicap support The social services committee for Durham Region seeks greater funding for à program for the handicapped. The program program provides services to help the handicapped tp live as in- , dependent as possible. Social services provide a staff of four to help 160 developmen- tally handicapped adults. The province has been funding the program 100 perfcent and has offered offered an increase of four percent. percent. Bowmanville. For the past few years, Mrs. Annie Cathcart, has donated a prize to be given to the person coming from the farthest distance, this was won by John Griffith and family, Tilburg, Holland, who are presently visiting the John Lowery's. The Members of Kendal L.O.L. 405, would like to express their thanks to all the ladies that baked pies, made salads and the workers who did so much work in serving. Following supper we were entertained by Bonnie Cowel and her trio-and James and Doreen Lowery, a very enjoyable time was had by all and many old friendships were renewed.
