"Parting is such sweet sorrow..." In February 1986 John Fice and Joanne Durno took over Newton- ville's corner store - the very hub of our village. Changes followed soon thereafter... With added floor space, new products products and services were offered: a deli counter, ice cream bar, movie rentals, fresh coffee, pure spring bottled water and much more. Probably Probably most obvious of all was the straight-from-the-heart, down- home friendly service John and Joanne brought to Newtonville. Our corner store now has reached the end of yet another era as John and Joanne move on. This is their last week. Fice's Corner Store transfers to its new owners this coming weékend. "I am really going to miss the warm, wonderful people in Newtonville.." Joanne confesses, adding, "but the water business has grown so quickly, we can hardly keep up with it. John and I had a hard decision to make. We knew We could not> keep the hours up the store demands, continue to service the growing number of Kendal Hill Spring Water customers." Both have grown attached to Newtonville over the past three years. John is grateful to have had fine neighbours in Wallace and Inez Boughen. He was quick to add he will miss seeing Mel ville Jones (who is in his upper eighties..) taking his Little Scoops... - It was 8:00 p.m. May 29th, when equipment was hapled into town - first on Hill Street as the reality of water coming to Newtonville became evident.
