Co-op Housing proposal (Continued from page 1) commodation is not available m the Town of Bowman ville. The Town held a public hearing on the proposal on Monday morning morning with the proposal being sent back to staff for further processing. The proponents of the development are to meet with the neighbouring residents to discuss their concerns. One resident begged that council look at such Co-op developments in other areas which they said were beautiful buildings and provided affordable housing. Another person said they had to move to Oshawa to find housing for their family < and was interested in the development with veiw of possibly moving back to Bowman- ville. It was pointed out that such developments do have areas in which children can grow up in and enjoy. Chris Ward said the proposal would be a mixed income community community in which people would be involved involved with their own investment. He said the buildings would be placed on table land and that the school board had no problem with the development going ahead. Smith outlined the conditions of Co-op housing stating, that it did bring a value of ownership but that in fact residents do not have complete ownership. He said the complex could not be sold as an investment. He said such proposals are funded by the federal government. government. Smith further stated that residents run the aoperation through their own committee of the residents and do have full control. Bay of Quinte Conference (Continued from page 1) He was rhetorical, light hearted, and even funny in his address to the 450 delegates attending the conference. conference. In speaking of the diverse opinions opinions coming from all church centres centres he said it can bring strength even with the division that now faces the church all across Canada. 1 * 'There are people whose attitude is to read the Bible literally", said Lee. "There are others who, unless the interpret the Bible through many signs, background and circumstances, circumstances, cannot understand it at all". He also said he was not sure that there was anyway to solve the problem problem in this church. "But I'm not ready to give up." Lee did say he wanted to share some of his experiences to help create a "unity through diversity" rather than through uniformity. He said he saw in his own life many instances of having to deal with diverging attitudes and values within widely varying cultures and societies. ■_/ Having been bom some 65 years ago in Siberia to parents who had emigrated from Korea he said he felt he had some qualities to speak of coping with diversity. During z the past year the church had been dealing with copingi Differences Differences of opinions on One single issue has threatened to divide congregations congregations and presbyteries. That issue is whether self r declared, practising homosexual# should be ordained in the United Church. This issue was dealt with at the Victoria conference last year with no apparent resolution and will be a factor in debate at the conference to be held in London, Ontario in 1990. Lee said the specific question has not been decided to this point. "The basic principle of' the church, theology wise, is that the church has to be inclusive," Lee said. "And the church has already stated that. We welcome homosexuals homosexuals as members of the church. That much, I do think, all members accept,'" he said. "Ordination is another question", he said, "and that has to go through all kinds of procedures." The Bay of Quinte heard three petitions relating to the homosexual ordination issue, all negative to such a move, Board of Education tax loss (Continued from page 1) Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland Northumberland and ■ Newcastle Separate shcool Board. The original proposal put forth by the province would have pooled the public school board's resources on a provincewide provincewide basis. Wilf Day has said the proposal proposal now is the worse it could be. He said the original scheme was to share on a provincial-wide, basis. "We are not getting anything out of it such as a share of the richer assessment," said pay. When we are praying for God to answer our need we must believe that we receive. God honours faith, (Our Faith). If we have faith we will see our prayers being answered. We can pray for any need in our lives and if*we have faith to believe and not doubt, we will see our prayers fulfilled. In 1 Peter 2:24 the latter part says, "by those stripes (the stripes Jesus took on His back before he hung on the cross) you were healed. This is physical healing. The death of Jesus on the cross was for our spiritual healing. Isaiah 53:5, "He was wounded, (the nails in His hands and feet and the sword that pierced His side) foour transgressions, he was bruised bruised for our iniquities. (They beat Him, tore His beard from off His face) the Chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed. Now is Jesus already took all this pain, sorrow and suffering suffering for us, so that we could be well, shouldn't we be walking healed healed from all our diseases? The body of Christ (those who have accepted Jesus as saviour and Lord of their lives) should be well. It's a matter of learning what the word of God says about every situation we face. God's word has the answer to every need. Ask Him to come into your life today and start receiving from God's Word. Prayer for the sick is scriptural. James 5:14 says, "If any are sick among you call for the elders of the church, and let them praÿ over them annointing with oil in the name of'the Lord." Read also James 5:15-16.
