Kinsmen support Ventures on trip to England Big things at the Co-op and Downtown Orono Big things are brewing for Friday and Saturday in Downtown Orono and at the Durham Farmers' Co-op just north of the Village. , The Co-op celebrates their 75th Anniversary with a sale and a host of other events while those downtown are making offerings reaching as high as fifty percent in reduced prices and offering coffee on-the-house. The Co-op will have a display of animals and Case farm tractors. As well the directors of the local group will be heating up the barbecues for some,hand-outs while you view the specials and on other items a ten percent reduction. The kids can gain free passes to the Orono Exotic Cat. world with those 12 and; under having to be ac- commpanied by their parents. The Downtown merchants are offering offering a host of specials with reduction reduction in prices ranging up to fifty percent for both days, Friday and Saturday. Last Tuesday evening the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen gave financial support to a group of Orono- Newcastle Ventures who will be spending 17 days in England as of July 24th. The local Ventures meet on a regular basis and this year look forward forward to the trip overseas. The $250.00 donation from the Kisnmen is a big financial boost for the group. Museum sponsoring Charity Auction July 1 In an effort to gain funds for a new addition to the Clarke Museum and Archives at Kirby the Board of Directors have organized a Grand Charity Auction which will be held in the Orono Arena on July 1st. All proceeds will go directly to the builcling fund and there is great anticipation of a good turnout to the auction and donation of articles for auction. According to Mark Jackson, curator, there is a great selection df articles which will be offered for sale of which a list will appear this coming week in the local press. , The list now includes tickets to the Les Miserable to a wooden dpll house, sewing machines, bird houses, baked goods etc. • The auction is to strat at 12 noon With Frank Stapleton the auctioneer. auctioneer. Beiber of the Ontario. Hydro, Toronto Head Office, when she was about to address council on emergency plaits for the Darlington , Nuclear Power Station. The Town and Hydro have not been meeting since the Town cutoff discussions with hydro and seek additional millions of dollars for building permits. Hydro makes the claim that they have met all financial financial conditions as to the building permit costs. Beiber was allowed to proceed with her presentation who spoke on emergency plans and commitments (Continued page 12) of the Town of Newastle gave their approval for a development of a gas bar and service station in Kendal at the south-west corner of Regional Road Nine and the Kendal- Newton ville Road. The proposal was supported by the planning staff stating that the proposal did meet the conditions of the Regional Official plqn. Four delegations at the meeting spoke in opposition to the proposal name petition from Kendal residents in opposition to the development. Don Prout spoke in opposition to the proposal stating that he would not be opposed if it was in the proper place. He also had concerns of the nearby stream. On Friday, June 9th friends, stall and former students of the Ijowman- ville Nursery School honoured Irene Konzeltnan, Orono, who has served as supervisor of the school for the past thirteen years.
