Like an apple a day it can be some form of tonic to add that little edge or piece of spice that can add lightness to the step and a twinkle in the eye. And who knows when it is going to happen. Its unpredictable and perhaps that is the way it should be. A couple of Fridays ago the handle handle of one of the rollers on the printing printing press came off in my hand leaving leaving the core rod in the machine. I knew a loop at the end of a piece of wire should catch hold of the core and fit tight enough to pull it out. After a number of tries I gave up and of course made my way to Mercer's garage for some words of wisdom from Ross on just what should be done. Using stiffer wire Ross fashioned the loop and armed with this the core was gently and quickly removed. removed. The chuckle for me came when Ross after giving me a hard time about my abilities thought I was going going to dump the greasy handle in his hands. He exclaimed, "I don't want to get my hands greasy, keep it." Now Ross is a mechanic and greasy hands are synonomouS with a mechanic and after all it was only 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon, There was almost a half day left to be productive. productive. And at Kirby school the same day a representative of the Seat Belt Awareness Association was making her point of safety by asking Erica ' Hawkshaw to run into the gym wall. Erica was having nothing to do with the request. "Thank heavens they asked Erica," said the principal to me. "Why do you have students that would run into the wall." Of course I got no reply. And then there is a story told by one of our residents viewing the ac tivity with our water system which being flushed over the past few days. Seven half tons with five whit hardhats and two back droppini coffee cups on the front law following coffee break. Casually the resident walks ovei. picks up the coffee cups and drops them into the cab of one of th ~ trucks. "Why didn't you put them in th e back?" "They would only blow out. Of course if the debris is goo enough for the front lawn its good enough for the inside of |jhe cab of the truck. The flushing must be a major jc if you consider all the half tons i volved. Maybe that is where tl chuckle should stop. Most recent was a trip to Toroni late Sunday afternoon to attend tl wedding reception of Lisa Samu and Colin Crawley. It was beii held in the Richmond^ Street an ' just off the Don Valley and the should be no problem with Donn ' as the co-pilot armed with a detaili map. After a number of turns I pull over to the side of the road and a mitted I was totally disoriented n knowing which was South, Nor East or West. "Donna you are holding the m upside down ... when you call foi right hand turn it should have be a left turn and visa versa.-" "Theres the sun over there that is west", was the reply. Well we made it in plenty of time and with a chuckle too. As a result she stated that she feared their property would not be included for municipal water service. The boundaries have not since been revised to include the property. property. The letter was referred to the Town of Newcastle and region of Durham. Counc. Harare said that the property property was not to be serviced with water as it would have cost the Region some $200,000 to service the one property on the road.
