IGA Men's soccer rings up a victory After a couple tie games and a couple of losses over the past two weeks, Orono finally got another win, beating Zion by a score of 3-2, last Wednesday evening. Shawn Bailey started the ball rolling rolling getting the first goal against Zion. It looked scarey for the team after that as they went into the 2nd half behind one goal, a score of 2-1. Orono came on strong in the 2nd half allowing no goals by Zion, due to their strong defensive line coiP sisting of A1 Hall, Darren Lewis, Gary Schmid and Ted Gaudet. Shawn Bailey made it two for the night tying the score 2-2. In the last minutes of the game Jeff Vanhaverbeke scored the winning goal making the final score 3-2. Thanks to all those who came out to cheer on the guys to another win. The Orono men's team have a good chance of taking the championship, ■how about more Orono fans coming coming out. From Around the Region Garden Hill girt to World competition Dawn Watson of Garden Hill is to compete in the World Pen-' tarhalon World competition in Austria later this summer. She is presently training in Germany. As this is the third- time she will have competed in the Worlds she also now expects to compete in Australia in 1990, Hope Twp Reeve fears use of Wesleyville for garbage Reeve Roger Wilson of Hope Township has some fears that the Wesleyville Generating plant may be used for the incineration of Metro garbage. Wilson admits that the Ministry of the environment has no immediate immediate plans to use the site for incineration incineration but that it may be possible possible in the long term. He is asking Premier Peterson for a dear denial of any such action. Cycling finals held north of Cobourg The 1989 Ontario Road Racing Cycling Championships were held in the hilly country north of Cobourg a couple of weeks ago. The elevation was 1,100 feet from start to finish. Some 350 were entered in the various classes with the senior's mens being 173 kilometers in distance. Predicts little support for amalgamation Warden Roger Wilson of Northumberland Northumberland County states there is very little support of amalgamation of municipalities in the County for those under a population of 4000. The province has suggested that in a restructuring plan those municipalities under 4000 of a fropulation be amalgamated. Compost system to be studied The Region of Durham is to study a plan for central composting. composting. The study is to cost $42,000 for the handling and composting composting of kitchen and lawn waste. The Region is also considering an energy-from-wo.od waste proposal that could be undertaken at their Duffin Creek Sewage plant which does have an incinerator.
