Mike Landers led the Orono hitters as he stroked out two singles and a triple while scoring three runs and driving in three. Tdrrt Tamblyn also hit a triple and Chris Chollette banged out a double. Daryl Houston had the other Orono hit. A very nice crowd of Orono supporters was on hand for this game and all the boys really appreciated appreciated the support. Line score: Orono - 12 Runs, 7 Hits, 0 Errors; Georgetown - 2 Runs, 3 Hits, 3 Errors. Orono's next opponent is a team from Pelham. The first game in this best of three sériés will be played at the Orono Park on Saturday, August 26th at 2:00 o'clock. The second game as well as the third if necessary will be played in Pelham the following day. The team would love to see the same number of supporters on Saturday Saturday as were on hand to see the Georgetown game. The Orono Baseball Pee Wees defeated Georgetown two straight games in their best of three series and have earned the right to proceed to the next round of the Ontario Baseball Association Playoffs. On Saturday, August 19th, Orono travelled to Georgetown for the first game of the series and handed the hometoWn crew a 15 to 3 defeat in a game called after 5 innings when thWnercy rule was invoked. As has been the case all season, Orono's pitching pitching was outstanding as Mike Landers limited the Georgetown team to 4 hits while striking out 6 and issuing no free passes. The defense also shone as Orono played flawless in the field. Offensively, the bats were booming as Orono rapped out a total of 13 hits in the five innings innings of play including three triples, two doubles and one home run. Daryl Houston and Aaron Staples led the team with three hits each while Mike Landers and Larry Houston garnered two each. One of Mike's two hits was a mammoth three run homer in the third inning. inning. Other Orono hits went to Jason Taylor, Daryl Reid and Chad Maartense. Line score: Orono - 15 Runs, 13 Hits, 0 Errors; Errors; Georgetown - 3 Runs, 5 Hits, 4 Errors. Georgetown visited Orono on, Sunday, August 20th with similar results as the previous day as Orono handed them'a 12 to 2 defeat in another mercy rule shortened game. Daryl Reid was on the hill for Orono and pitched an excellent three hitter. Daryl was ip, complete control all the way striking out six batters while walking just two. For the second game in a Orono Mosquito Soccer news June 21st, Orono was handed an 8-7 loss at the hands of Hampton. Seven of our players were on a school trip *to Kingston so we had to call up an Atom player to give us a full team. About ten minutes before game time it rained buckets, needless to say the holes on the field filled with the. wet stuff adding adding to our difficulties, but still we managed to hold our own getting seven goals. Jamie Shetler netted three, Tyler Bates added two and Ryan Winning settled for two to round out our scoring. ' June 28th, Orono had their most severe loss of the season against Graham's IGA from Bowmanville, going down 5-1. We played a good game but just couldn't seem to keep their forwards forwards under control. .The two penalty kicks scored against us didn't do anything to improve the final result. Our lone goal was scored by Tyler Bates. July 5th, Orono visited Tyrone and came away with a 4-3 win for their efforts. This was a super game; with all players playing their positions well, and the end dividends were a victory. Our goal scorers were Tyler Bates - 2; Jamie Shetler -1 and Steven Bonneau - 1. July 12th, Orono played the Bowmanville Kicks at Waverly School and added another notch to our victory belt with a 2-1 win. The kicks came out strong at the very beginning of the first half scoring their only goal of the game. Orono played a steady game keeping the pressure on when needed but just couldn't get the ball between between the posts where it would count. With five minutes or less remaining in the game Orono struck scoring two quick goals giving us the win. Kyle Colville netted one and Jamie Shetler picked up the second one. July 19th, Orono defeated Newcastle 4-0 at the Orono fields. We suffered a defeat to this team earlier in the season so this game really satisfied our thirst for a win against them. The Orono boys played their own style of game not allowing Newcastle to set up in our end which proved to be the winning strategy. Goals were scored by Steven Bonneau - 1; Kyle Colville Colville - 2 and Tyler Bates - 1. The keepers' shutout Was .earned by Steven Sargent. • July 26th, Orono came up against the Checkers Variety team from Bowmanville and played them to the tune of a 4-1 win. The. boys' from Orono blocked Bowmanville from gelling gelling too close to our nets, forcing forcing them to kick Iront tar out which made lot cadet saves foi keeper Steve Sargent. Only once did we flounder allowing them an excellent shot which they capitalized on. Scoring for Orono was Greg Hammond - 1; Steven Bonneau - 2 and Tyler Bates - 1. August 2nd, Orono hosted Manvers serving them up a 4-2 defeat. The hometown boys always seem to try to stick to their winning style of play and in most cases it pays off very well for them. This was a very close game in the first half with both teams having excellent scoring oppmtunities and the keepers really having to be on their iocs. In the second half• Orono seemed to add that little bit of extra pressure that saw them through to the win. Picking Picking up two goals apiece were Kyle Colville and Jamie Shetler. August 9th, Orono and Hampton faced off against each 'smother 'smother with Orono coming out on top 6-3.
