6-Ôrono Weekly Times, Wednesday, August 23, 1989 Newton ville Alive by Peggy Multan Local Artists (1-r) Bryan Ransom Ransom and Ron Phillips. The home of Ron and Arlene Phillips was the setting last weekend, August 13th and 14th for "overtones: an Exploration in Music" the title and introduction introduction to an art show and sale of recent water colours and pencils drawings of the artists. Titled after various pieces of music, old and new, paintings were sometimes whimsical, sceneries were beautiful and inviting, inviting, and feelings from the water colours, full of smiles. Anyone having an opportunity opportunity to attend one of these art shows, should really try to go. The paintings and drawings are very good. We are proud to have such talent and beauty right in our own midst. Thank you Ron and Bryan for sharing your work with Newtonville and area. We look forward to future displays, shows and sales. Fondly thought of as the "Movie & Popcorn Gang" by certain parents, this group of close friends celebrated their graduation from High School in style with ^ trip to Medeira Beach, Florida. After ten days, they are arriving back just this week. All have grown together through the high school years, sharing memories and experiences experiences forever to be cherish- These eight graduates are readying readying for their respective colleges colleges and universities, entering a whole new phase of their lives. They leave our neighbourhood probably for longer than ever before. Congratulations to you, and to all '89 graduates. Best wishes! temperatures arc not far off. This is also the ideal time 'to start getting ready - chimney cleaning, insulating,, caulking, getting in wood or oil, or just stocking up on those cozy flanette sheets. - After having the annual experience experience of taking the kids out shopping for school clothes, I fear because of the crowds and prices, it is much better to clothe the darlings over a couple of months instead of all in one day. After all', they can't wear all those Winter duds already, now can they? Most people read or at least glance through the Toronto papers. Depending on what kind of mood you are in to begin with, it could get worse. Crime, inflation, inflation, immigration, housing, government spending - and y,es! the. big "T" word of late, TAXES! Clarke Museum (Continued from page 3) the chair is finished. The $40.00 - fee covers all instruction instruction and cost of materials. Participants must supply their 'own chairs, an awl, golf tees and a sponge. So, if you've ever'wanted to learn to cane furniture come out to the Museum on August 27 - Just recently we had to spend quite a dollar on something essential - safe tires. Now, the money was put aside for this purpose - bear in mind, money left over after taxes...Purchasing the tires was easy - examining the bill - not so pleasant. The government hast slapped a "special tax" of $5.00 per tire (on everyone eventually) then, the 8% tax is charged on top of it all. 'Çhis is just one example of very confusing government taxation taxation system. I understand next, that a tax will be levied on all lottery tickets as well. Where will it end? Canadians have always been known as an unriled, passive nation.. I still hold faith that sooner or later we will have had enough...Enough of a wishy- washy embarassing us to the rest of the world on more issues than just taxes! and see what its all about!
