After easy series wins over Little Britain and Georgetown to advance to the Semi-Finals, Orono found the Pelham team to be much stronger and the series was not decided until the third out of the last inning, Orono defeated Pelham 4-2 at home and 8-7 in Pelham and will now face the winner winner of the yet to be played series between Corunna and Listowel, No definite date or time for the finals has been set but it is believed that the first game will be in Orono on Saturday, September 9th. A large crowd was on hand at the Orono Park on Saturday, August 26th to see the home team defeat the visitors 4-2. Pelham drew first blood as they scored one run in the top of the second inning and held the lead until the fourth when Orono scored two runs. Larry Houston on second base via a single and a stolen base scored the tying run when Daryl Reid cracked out the first of his two hits. Daryl scored the go ahead run on Chris Cholette's R.B.I. single. Hurler Mike Landers was sailing along and through 5 innings had faced just 4 batters over the minimum, in the top of the sicth however Pelham touched Mike for two consecutive singles and knotted the score at 2 apiece. Orono did not get down and thanks to a huge triple by Daryl Reid in the bottom of the sixth scored two runs to take a 4-2 lead. Pelham is an excellent team and they managed to put the tying runs on base in the seventh but Mike came through again as he struck'out the final two batters and Orono had a well deserved victory over a very tough opponent. • Daryl Reid and Chris Chollette led the Orono hitters with two hits each and singles went to Larry Houston, Mike Landers, and Aaron Staples. As has been the case all year Mike's pitching was outstanding as he gave up just 4 hits while walking two and fanning 1,1. The very large and.vocal crowd gave the boys much appreciated encouragement encouragement during the entire game and the team hopes to receive the same support in the next series. The lead was short lived however as Pelham came right back in the bottom of the second to score 6 runs as a result of 4 hits, two walks and two errors in what was Orono's worst inning in many games. Orono's trademark all season has been to never give up and this game was no exception as they came back in the 4th inning cracked a double to score Paul Woods and Tom Tamblyn. Mike and Larry Houston scored the other two runs in the inning. Pelham continued continued to pressure Orono and in the bottom of the sixth they scored one run to knot the score at 7. Orono scored the go ahead and winning run in the seventh as Aaron Staples blasted a double to deep center field to score Chris Chollette who was aboard via a free pass. Pelham managed to get the tying run to second second base but again Mike fanned the final batter to preserve the victory victory and send the Orono players and fans into a great celebration. Daryl Reid started on the hill for Orono and while he was victimized by some uncharacteristic sloppy defence in the 2nd inning, kept Orono in the game until Mike came on in the 5th to finish the game. Chris Chollette and Mike Landers had two hits apiece with single hits going to Larry Houston, Daryl Houston, Aaron Staples, Paul Woods and Chad Maartense.
