School Trustees jack salary by $1,126 The Northumberland and Newcastle public school trustees have voted themselves a $1,126 pay hike for the 1989-99 school year at a meeting held last week. The increase is noted to be a 20 percent increase and came as a recommendation from an ad hoc committee on trustees' honorarium. In the past the trustees have supported supported a $200.00 increase per annum. annum. The report from the ad hoc committee committee noted that the 20 percent increase increase worked out to an average of fifteen boards in the province. But all members did not agree with the 20 percent increase and the vote rested at 10 to 5. Judi Armstrong of Coboiirg speaking in favour of the increase said the issue was not about money but about being paid fairly for the job you do. Fellow Cobourg trustee disagreed with Armstrong stating that the school board attracted people with a legitimate interest in the system and that offering a large remuneration remuneration could hurt the system in the end. Bill Carman, Orono, another opponent opponent of the increase said he would rather see the money used in the classroom where it was sorely needed. He said, "Trustees' responsibilities responsibilities haven't changed drastically in the past five years but the amount of time spent on them have gone down due to all the staff that has been hired." Shirley Johnston, Hamilton Township said the $1126 raise was a giant step beyond the $200 raise which trustees had normally voted. Verna Shackleton, chairman of the committee, said another $200 trustees. She said it would discourage younger people with jobs to participate on the board. In addition to the trustee increase the chairman of the board is now to be paid double the honorarium while the vice-chairman will receive the honorarium plus a further 25 percent. Heads of committees will receive the honorarium plus ten percent. percent. Col: 1:27, "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you the hope of glory." We see in_this scripture that Jesus is the mystery that the Gentiles (anyone not of thd Jewish faith) received and that He was the hope in and for our lives. When we were not Christians wè had no hope, our hope was in the worlds system which really is not too stable. We hoped our money would last until pay day, hoped we wouldn't get the swine flu and all the other flus that go around and around and around again.. And,our hope was useless, because we usually usually ran out of money and caught the flu besides. . In the third epistle of John verse July 22, 1989 - G.M. July 29, 1989 - CAR-TECH 2 it tells us what God wants for us, "Beloved, I wish above all things (there's that word again) that you would prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers." Now that's hope in someone.who is able to come through for us. I imagine everyone would like to prosper (financially) and I can't imagine imagine anyone who likes to be sick. I sure didn't,-and what's even better than prospering and being healthy is to have a soul that's prospering. When our soul prospers we know what God's word means and then we can take authority over those things (sickness, poverty, fear, rejection rejection etc.) and get victory over them, now that's hope. God is our only hope, he can be your hope too. Ask Jesus into your life and start' living with real hope, as God's word promises. Questions or comments? Write Box 179.
