4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, September 6, 1989 SPORTS Orono Pee Wees face Listowel in The Orono Pee Wee Baseball Team's opponent in thb upcoming All-Ontario Finals was decided on the weekend when Listowel defeated Corunna in the third game of their best of three semi-finals series. The first game in the series will be played at the Orono Park on Saturday, September 9th at 3 o'clock. The second and possible third game will be played the next day in Listowel with the first game slated for 1 o'clock. Orono has gone undefeated in the playoffs to date and have eliminated Little Britain, Ont. finals Georgetown and Pelham. In a previous meeting at the Kincardine Tournament in July, Orono defeated Listowel by a score of 7-3 to win the Consolation Final. Saturday's game marks the final local appearance of the team and the boy's would appreciate a large crowd to cheer them on to the Championship. The team is taking a bus to Listowel on Sunday. The target date for completion of the Courtice Heights building is late August 1990, according to architect Millet Salter who told trustees the school will fall within the projected budget of "4'A million dollars." In July at the Durham Summer Skating School in Whitby, Tracy Eames passed the fourth figure. As well Tracy competed at the Niagara Fall Skating competition and placed third in the final in the Novice Ladies category. Melissa Allin, who attended the Upper Canada Skating School in Toronto, passed the Junior Silver Dance "American Waltz". In August, at the Minto Skate, Tracy Eames placed fourth in the Novice Ladies' category and at test day passed the Senior Silver Dance, "Starlight Waltz". Tanya Clemens passed the Gold Dance "Westminster Waltz" and Briar Ransberry passed the Gold Dance "Quickstep". At the Lindsay Summer School Melanie Lemieux passed the "Willow Waltz" completing the Junior Bronze Dance category. Congratulations to Briar Ransberry who recently passed the Novice Competitive Test. This test includes a Competitive Figure test, Free Skate elements and a Free Skate program. Briar is coached by Allyson Cowan. The Vincent Massey Public School addition, to be largely completed completed by September 1990, will cost an estimated $3.7 million and will see a general purpose room, library, special education classroom and an additional 25 classrooms added to the school, according to architect Jim Duncan. Honorarium Increased Trustees voted to increase their annual honorarium from $5,464 a year to $6,590, beginning 1 September of this year. The new rate is based on the average of 15 public school boards in the province of a similar size. For example, trustees in Hastings, a neighbouring board which has a student enrolment enrolment of about 16,800, currently received $6,804 a year. Trustees with the Werttworth Board receive $7,000 a year and have a student enrolment of about 16,400, while trustees with the Peterborough Board receive slightly over $6,000 and have a student enrolment of about 15,500. The student enrol- 1 ment at the Northumberland and Newcastle Board is close to 19,000. This is the firit significant in-' crease in a trusted 1 ?; honorarium in over a decade. Complaints received over skate-boarding The By-law enforcement office of the Town of Newcastle has received a total of 68 complaints over skate boarding throughout the municipality during July and August. , Of the total number 14 were from the Village of Orono, 5 from Newcastle Village and a total of 33 from Bowman ville residents. The report to the General Purpose Purpose committee on Monday points out that the skateboard by-law is only effective in the ■ Town of Bowmdn ville but that in fact complaints complaints are being received from throughout the Town. The complaints. register continued continued abuse and harrassment related to skateboarding. V_> The report states that staff will continue to deal with complaints and to take appropriate action. It is stated that if council proposes to extended extended the by-law throughout the entfte community staff would prepare the necessary by-law.
