Made appearance in Orono Fair parade There is nothing like a clown and these two young girls were a real hit in the Orono Fair parade. All the way from Newtonville, Jenny and Becky Hale. A great effort in entertainment. "Just In Time " This true story had its beginning in early July when Donna and I attended attended the annual Forrester's picnic in Goderich. The event brings together the few remaining in the bloodline group that are sparsely scattered from Trenton to Oshawa- Orono area and in the Goderich- Bayfield area. This is not to forget John and Dorothy Marr of Milton who also have a connection. • There is a reason for singling out John and Dorothy for we became more involved with them other than the picnic. John is good with stories especially since he took to sailing when the slightest breeze conjurés up problems and Dorothy is still trying to make up her mind if she really wants to be his second mate on the craft. They do have a good sense of humor. But durtng the day and a half in Goderich John questioned that 1 was a printer and that he did have a printing job, three colours, asking if I could look after it. • Of course it was no problem which 1 assured him three or four ' times during the stay in Goderich. When we were departing that beautiful town of Goderich it was John's last words. "I'll get that job •to you, you're sure you can handle it*" My answer was ' positive. The three colours were no problem. ,The printing was Certificates for the kids 'in his church's Sunday School. Really 1 thought that was likely the last time I'd hear from John until until the next annual event. But it was not the case for John and Dorothy drove into (he driveway some three to four weeks later with the copy already to be photographed and printed. "Now you will look after me ^-Roy" were the parting words as the couple took off for a week-end in Huntsville. Now it didn't take Chris and Blaine long to prepare all the work up to the press and the job hung up waiting through one phone call from John, a second and I lien a third. "Are you having problems Roy" "No John there is no problem, when do you really need the certificates?" certificates?" Well 1 would liked to have had them for to-morrow night because I could distribute them to the teachers who have to fill them out for a mid October distribution." "That's no problem John I'll print them in the morning and have them to you for the meeting", "Does that mean you haven't printed them yet?" "How can you print them Thursday morning and I can have them Thursday night in Milton"? "It's our Just In Time system,. John" ' "You mean like General Motors?" . Just like and better than General Motors." "Now you are sure Roy.','. I'm sure". The delivery truck will have the paper here tomorrow morning just in time for me to get it on the press, just in time to complete the job and put it on the bus and just in time for you to pick it up for your meeting at the bus station at 6:47 p.m. "Think of the benefits John for both of us." I only handle the paper once from the delivery dock to the press, wrap and out the door". "You handle it once from the bus station to the car to the church basement." "No asking Dorothy to ' move her pots and pans in the kit-, ehen for storage space or carrying it up stairs to the spare bedroom or messing up your garage". "By-jo vc Roy you're fight". "All you have to do now is produce." produce." "John, I ,,kncw you would understand after all you were an engineer on the l.CBO warehouse in Whitby and John Ackroyd swears by the technology used in the in- and-out system at that complex.'-' Can't believe all you hear about garbage (Continued from page 1) Hannah said he was endeavouring endeavouring to have this changed and to get the process back on the intended track. He said he had received a number of drafts for the report to this end. Hannah said the interim report did state that Laidlaw could accept some 700 to 800 million tonnes which would serve Durham for seventeen years. With recycling of 25 percent of the Regions waste the site could last for 22 years and with 50 recycling the cite could last for 30 years. Hannah expects that some five sites could be on the table in 1990. He said he expects to be able to get an amendment to the interim report stating that the report is not to be construed endorsing any site at this time. The Region of Durham planning committee has approved a resolution resolution that the Region and the Town of Newcastle hire a consultant to deal with matter pertaining to Laidlaw Waste Systems (Durham) Limited up to a maximum of $15,000.
