Newtonville students are very keen to learn, they are bright and fun to be around. I love it here..." These were the comments used to describe the first full month of school by Newtonville's Principal David Gray. After many years, Newtonville Public School is her own identity, after being a twin school to Newcastle Newcastle Public School. Mr. Gray's enthusiasm enthusiasm and obvious devotion to our school is definitely contagious. David Gray has taught for 15 years, spanning grades 3 through 8 in the western area of Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education. He has taught in Bowmanville and was Vice- Principal for one year at Port Hope Central and Vice-Principal at Dr, Hawkins for 2 years, in Port Hope. Mr. Gray stressed that one of his primary goals is to promote interschool interschool relations, allowing the - true potential of Newtonville to be realized. With the school year still fresh, it does take a little time to settle in Little Scoops... - Welcome home Fred and Bernice Henderson of Newtonville from their dream holiday in Spain and Portugal'. Continued success! - It is nice to see Phyllis Peck doing so well of late. After quite an illness, illness, Phyllis is looking great and is getting about town more often. Plans for the immediate future include forming a school choir, eventually to take part in area festivals, as well as a sports program involving all students, with some inter-school competitions. With school spirit pleasingly rising rising to the surface more frequently, the kids are already submitting their personal design entries for a Newtonville crest. On October 3, the school held an open house. Parents and visitors gathered in the gymnasium for a short meeting where David Gray introduced introduced staff members and invited all to visit and chat with teachers, view the newly formed library and see their children's classrooms. We are off to a grand start at Newtonville. We have had more than our share of Staff turnovers and look forward to some.stability for our children, both in curriculum and teachers. Mr. Gray is planning to settle into Newtonville for quite awhile and it is great to see. Well, I guess it has been about a year since I had to spend time in the principal's office - and I am glad I did... "1 am very proud to be at Newtonville Public School," says David Gray. "It already is as though I have been here for some time. I know all the students on a first name basis. They are a great bunch! We have a superb teaching staff'this year and we are all working working together to make Newtonville stand up and be counted...With our library/resource centre now available, a full-time gym and an excellent curriculum, our future is bright. The Corporation of the TOWN OF NEWCASTLE 1989 Leaf Collection Project LEAVES HAVE BEEN BANNED AT THE BROCK WEST LANDFILL SITE Municipalities in the Durham Region can no longer dispose of leaves with regular garbage. Therefore, the Durham Region and area municipalities have developed an alternative plan to dispose of the leaves in a composting site. Leaves must be placed in normal household'garbage" bags and tied with special tags. The tags will be distributed to all households in the Town of Necastle the week of October 23, 1989. Leaves will.be picked up in separate tracks dispatched to collect leaves only. The leaf bags must be identified with the tags provided and they must also be placed ât the curb away from your regular garbage. The leaves will be taken to a composting site in the Durham Region, rather than a landfill site. * Special leaf collection days have been designated by each area municipality. Newcastle will collect leaves in accordance accordance with the following schedule: • Leaves will be collected in Newcastle on MONDAYS.
