Girls Basketball Midget Clarke Midgets faced Port Hope on October 2nd. The girls improvement improvement was shown clearly by the score. The game was tight from the first drop of the ball. Things are looking up! Their next game is October October 11 at Clarke High School. Good luck girls! Sports News Senior Boys Volleyball The Senior Boys Volleyball Team have returned safe and sound from their tournament in Halifax with a -silver medal. With a record of 8 .wins and 3 losses, the team defeated last year's winners Cole Harbour, Charlottetown Rural, Ascension and Brockville to find themselves against P.E.l.'s Westisle in the finals. Westisle, boasting five provincial provincial members, played with a varying offense and a solid defence. The Clarke boys kept the games close but eventually fell after two hard games. Special mention goes to Ken Davies and Mike Tait who were among the six players to make the all-star .team. Still, the team had a great time in Halifax,'and would like to thank everyone one more time for helping them get there. Their overall recorcj now is 56-11. Juniors On October 2, Junior Clarke Raiders came out shaky at lirst. By the end of the first quarter the girls were losing 12 to 2. As things picked picked up to the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 18 to 18. The juniors worked together to become victorious victorious once again. What a way to start a season! Congratulations! Top scorer goes to Megan Davies who earned 16 points. Senior The Senior Girls Basketball team came out undefeated after their first 2 games to start the season. The first was played October 5 in Port Hope, the girls outp^yed the other tèam both in offense and defense controlling most of the game and came out victorious with a score 28, to 21." The next game was played at St. Mary's. The girls won over St. Mary's with a score of 41-7. The girls showed great defense keeping St. Mary's in the single digits while the offense scored 41 points. High scorers are Trish Daize and Kertdal Eady. Way to go girls, keep up the „ good work as . you defend your Kawarlha championship! Academic Banquet On the evening of Thursday, October October 5th, Clarke High School held its annual Academic Awards Banquet. Banquet. Certificates of Academic Achievement were awarded to * students enrolled in grades 9 to 11 last year and whos'e final average placed them in the top 75 students in those grades. Various departments departments in the school also presented awards to students for high academic achievement in specific subjects. Approximately 180 parents and students attended the banquet. Certificates were awarded to the students by Ms. D. Stewart, Chairperson of The Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education, Ms. D. Nowlan and Mr. B. Carman, Trustees for Ward 3 and Mr. C. Kennedy, Area nature. The monument now holds a time capsule to be opened in another seven generations, year 2129. Peer Counsellor Our peer counsellor featured this week is Tammy Milton. Tammy lives in the Kendal area with her mom, dad, brother and two sisters as well as her cat, dog, fish and hamster! She moved here about five years ago from Kincardine, Ontario. Ontario. Tammy is a grade twelve student at Clarke. She hopes to graduate at the end of June and then enter a two year course in Law Enforcement Enforcement at a college. Tammy hopes to become a police officer, although she is not sure if she'll be an O.P.P. ' or municipal officer, working in this area or not. She really enjoys being a peer counsellor because it gives her an opportunity to meet a lot of new people both inside and outside the school. She doesn't really have a hobby, unless you include talking, joking around with friends and going going for long walks when the weather is really nice.-. Tammy Milton, Peer Counsellor Music Notes * As well as the Senior Band and Senior Stage Band'being in'full gear now, this year we have a newly formed Junior Stage Band consisting consisting of grade 9,and 10 students. In addition, Mr. Sword and Mr. Nicholas have formed a jazz choir. Both groups will make their debuts at .the December 7 Christmas Dessert Concert. The Senior Band will be selling various frozen meats from McGregor meats. Proceeds will go towards the New Orleans Band Festival in,April. Sports News Senior Girls Basketball Clarke played Cobourg West on Wednesday, October 11 in Cobourg. The game was tight as both teams were hungry for a win. Clarke was defeated for the first time this season. Congratulations to Denise Bugden. Kendal Eady and Trish Daize who all had a strong, aggressive game. The Seniors attended a Cobourg East Tournament on Saturday, October October 14. The first game was won by the Raiders in overtime. Congratulations Congratulations to Trish Daize who had a game high of 15 points. The second second game was also a victory for our seniors in another close round which put them in the semi finals against Campbell ford. The game was tense with the scoreboard favoring both sides.
