, 12-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 15, 1989 A tribute to Francis Jones New Legion Branch to receive charter Christine Stewart, Northumberland Northumberland M.P., Sondra Moffatt and Francis Johes chat following a tribute party last week hosted by the Durham Federal Liberal Association Frances Jones of Oshawa, a stalwart supporter of the liberal party and one who has provided service to the community through many other organizations, was honoured last Thursday evening by the Durham Federal Liberal Association. The tribute to Jones was held in the Newcastle Community Hall in the form of a banquet evening with Lloyd Axworthy, as guest speaker. Music for the banquet portion of the evening was provided by Susan Greenaway at the piano. Tributes were showered on Jones from all quarters referring to her years of work for the liberal party and to being a liberal provincial candidate in the Oshawa riding in 1963. The guest of honour has many credits to her service with the Girl Guides as a leader for seven years to a director of the Robert McLaughlin Art Gallery for nine years and president for two years. The list goes on with membership in the YWCA for thirty years, past Regent of the Golden Jubilee Chapter of the IODE, a member of the Catholic Women's League for over forty years and committed to service with other groups in the New system to select PC leader (Continued from page 11) „ locations throughout the province. Jones' service to the community has been recognized in many ways including the YWCA Woman of Distinction Awards, and Honourary Life Membership in the Oshawa Art Association and being named Outstanding Volunteer by the Liberal Party of Canada. She states that working in the community while rasing a family has been strenuous and she is grateful.for the help and patience of her husband and children, "I couldn't have continued without their support. Due to the advancing age of World War II and Korean Veterans, the Legion is rapidly being being filled by "Associate Members" who are mainly the sons and daughters of veterans. Formation of new branches has virtually ceased, ceased, which makes Friday, November 17th a red letter night in Durham Region. The new branch does not have a permanent home yet, but negotiations negotiations are taking place, and they hope to move in early in the new year.
